Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Fast fun fiction.
This book was fun. Exciting. Gripping. Well-written (as a means of catching and keeping reader attention). You won’t walk away with any greater understanding of how the universe works, but sometimes that’s just perfect, isn’t it? Go on! Enjoy yourself! 👍🏼👍🏼

Problematic, Offensive and Mind-Numbing
I now know why the author was turned down so many times for this book. The prologue is a false promise… from there on, the story devolves into a dated, awful premise of villainizing the “other” despite her attempts to reassure the reader that that is exactly what she is NOT doing. I thought we moved past this tired, offensive trope back in the 90s, so I was hopeful that (based on the hype around this book) the story would redeem itself. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t!

Gripping Good Time
I'm glad I wasn't on the plane, but I did enjoy the flight. It was a good first novel by T.J. Newman. I kept thinking I will take a break at the end of this chapter and then noooo I have to hear what happens next till I finished the book. Plus you can never go wrong with a Steven Weber read!! I see with my eyes the events he brings out in the words.
Look forward to the next projects by both!!.

Predictable and clichéd
I’m happy for this flight attendant who switched careers and wrote a novel, but the story is extremely chiched. Also the characters were difficult to distinguish because the delivery was so similar for every character, most of whom have common single syllable names like Bill, Sam, etc, making it difficult to keep track of the narrative.

Reader's chapters are off by one
The story is action packed from the beginning. Note that the reader introducing each chapter is off. The beginning of chapter 1 does not have a chapter announced, and then the other chapter announcements are behind by one. For example, chapter 2 is introduced as chapter 1.

Wow. An amazing achievement by the author. I read this in a single sitting. Major props to the author, who managed to tell an exciting story while also making extremely important points about American society and I was just blown away. I hope the author writes another book!
