Publisher's Summary

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too - but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success - his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family - Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

This audiobook is intended for mature audiences.

Valley Girl Narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed the story itself, and have already purchased the other 4 books left including 'Grey' and 'Darker', but it was so very hard for me to even get started with this book to begin with. The narrator's voice reminds me of some bimbo valley girl with only a few brain cells floating around in there. I almost didn't go through with this story and I was so close to turning it off and requesting a refund, just because of her voice. I powered through, however, and worked out for the better I guess you could say. As being someone who had only ever seen the movies, the book (at least this one so far) holds a lot more to be learned and discovered. I can't wait to begin the next one, and my struggle is do I continue with the next book in the series, or do I listen to this first book in Christian's perspective first, before I move on to the second book in the trilogy...? Ahhh choices.

crap

this is NOT about bdsm like they want you to believe. it is a romantic novel (not a great one) I bought this on all the hype stating it was a gritty sexually charged look into the bdsm life style. If that is what you are after steer far clear. Make no mistake this is a soft romance book with dreams of being an alternative lifestyle sex diary with poorly written description of the human body.
The same words are repeated throughout every repetitive scene. For the love of god grab a thesaurus.
and unfortunately the most forgivable parts of this awful book would be the terrible cliche that is the storyline. Been done 1000000+ times before. Young beauty with low self-esteem swept up by Handsome rich man who shows her a whole new world. literally think bad Cinderella knock off from low budget studio meets bad 70s porn

The emails!

If I wanted to read emails I would listen to this book. A monkey with a type writer could do better.

Terrible Narration

The narration was terrible and distracting. I couldn't focus on the story because of the narrator. The narrator was awkward and the voices were forced and sounded like she was making fun of the characters. I want my credit back. 😅 Sorry, Becca. Get Andi Arndt to narrate it and I'd pay for it.

Loved the story, hated the narrating

The narrator sounded too much like they were using their voice for reading to a group of children. obviously that was not the case, considering the context of this book. It was very difficult to listen to her, especially throughout the infamous adult scenes.

Save your credits

I’m so glad I read this in paperback first before trying to listen to it, if I hadn’t there is no way I would have ever finished it. The performance is absolutely horrendous. In the first chapter alone Anastasia comes across as cocky, arrogant, and snide, while Christian sounds almost meek. Total reversal of roles. I can’t listen past the end of the interview as it’s so terrible of a performance and I would rather keep my memory of the story.

Pretty Good

After the 50 Shades craze a few years ago, as a man I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
I decided to listen to it via audio book because that would allow me to hear the book during my commute to/from work. So far I find the Amazon Audible service to be very easy to use and works well. #Audible1
I'm glad that I'm listening to this book rather than reading it because there are parts of it that are mundane and drag on, so I may have stopped reading, but once you get to the good stuff, it's not bad.
I find Becca Battoe's narrating voice to be quite good and helps to keep you engaged during the slow parts. I will be looking to other books narrated by her in the future.

Great Book!! Well worth the money and time.

Everything I thought it would be. Erotic, sexy, sometimes mind blowing. The reader did a great job making you feel like you were listening to two people. Great job!
Is it bad that I want to listen to it again lol.

Very disturbing content

i do not like leaving books unfinished and this was difficult to get to the end. Let me be clear, this book is only for sick people who clearly just have sadistic tendencies. That last scene with the belt was just un-readable. Character growth was almost next to nothing and the author took waaay more time to move the story forward. HORRIBLE.
