Publisher's Summary

Fletch, as unbridled as ever and still living the good life in Italy on his ill-gotten fortune, gets a surprising visit from two surly FBI agents. The pair offers him a deal: either he attend the American Journalism Alliance convention and work as an undercover spy for them, or be shipped back to headquarters and face jail time for tax evasion.

Reluctantly agreeing to the scheme, he catches a red-eye flight back to the States. But just as rubber hits tarmac in Virginia, news breaks on a murder at the convention. The victim - a newspaper tycoon and former employer of I. M. Fletch - was no stranger to enemies. And at a hotel full of reporters who'd all had their dealings with the tyrannical leader, everyone's a suspect.

Gregory Mcdonald does not disappoint.

Really enjoying all of the Fletch books. The narrator does a great job with the snappy back and forth dialog.

Overloaded With "Quirk"

This book undeniably exhibits Gregory McDonald's signature lighthearted mystery fare with a sharp-witted atypical central character.
I.M. "Fletch" Fletcher is blackmailed into helping the CIA spy on key figures in the American Press in this one.. and finds himself embroiled in the investigation of a universally-hated newspaper publisher's murder. Fletch's sardonic wit is on full display, and the mystery is well-plotted.. but McDonald overdoes it with the oddball characters populating the story (Fletch's one-time reporter colleagues). 'Fletch's Fortune' crosses the line into "too silly" too often.

Fortunately for audiobook fans, reader Dan John Miller is once again praiseworthy. Imperfect.. but commendable. This is a quality listening product.

Altogether, this third entry in the 'The Fletch' series merits 6 stars out of 10. It's an entertaining listening option if you can get it for free, but one of the weaker 'Fletch' offerings available on Audible. Save your Credit for a different installment if they ask for one.
