Publisher's Summary

Flight is the hilarious and tragic story of an orphaned Indian boy - "Zits" - who travels back and forth through time in a charged search for his true identity. With powerful, swift prose, Flight follows the troubled teenager as he learns that violence is not the answer.

The journey begins as he's about to commit a massive act of violence. At the moment of decision, he finds himself shot back through time to awaken in the body of an FBI agent during the civil-rights era. It's only the first stop. He continues through time to inhabit the body of an Indian child during the battle at Little Bighorn and then rides with an 1800s Indian tracker before materializing as an airline pilot jetting through the skies today.

During these furious travels, his refrain is: "Who's to judge?" and "I don't understand humans." When he returns to his own life, he is transformed by all he's seen.

What the critics say

"Captivating...one quickly surrenders to Zits' voice, which elegantly mixes free-floating young adult cynicism with a charged, idiosyncratic view of American history. Alexie plunges the book into bracing depths." ( Publishers Weekly)

A great, unexpected book

This book made me laugh. It made me sad and it made me hopeful for people if they take time to recognize all sides of people,

Transformative

I've never listened to anything quite like this. It touched my soul. The narration by Adam Beach was mesmerizing. The pace was perfect. You were only allowed to feel grasp some new and profound insight before being swept off to the next part of the story. Everything came full circle. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to find another audio book to top this.

Zits

This audiobook is probably the best thing I’ve ever heard.
The story is incredibly thoughtful and intensely emotional, it’s beautiful and ugly and everything else.
The narration was also beautifully. Flawless.

incredible!

Wow...what an incredible story! A unique journey to explore the devastating ways we can treat one another and the growth and understanding uncovered through walking a ways in others' shoes.

I LOVE THIS STORY!

I am touched to my soul. I was taken by the narrator's voice and interpretation as well as Zits' excellent interior monologue. I would say this is a masterpiece: touching and funny as well as deep. I couldn't stop listening and I am sad it is over.
Mr. Alexie, please write a sequel!!!

Everyone makes bad decisions now and then.

This is an examination of the issues facing indigenous youth today, and the path Settlers and first peoples followed to get there. The time travel plot is the vehicle used for these revelations. It's too short for the subject.
