Publisher's Summary

Nursing a broken heart, Robbie Jordan is trading in her life on the West Coast for the rolling hills of Southern Indiana. After paying a visit to her Aunt Adele, she fell in love with the tiny town of South Lick. And when she spots a "for sale" sign on a rundown country store, she decides to snap it up and put her skills as a cook and a carpenter to use.

Everyone in town shows up for the grand reopening of Pans 'n Pancakes, but when the mayor's disagreeable assistant is found dead, Robbie realizes that not all press is good press. With all eyes on her, she'll have to summon her puzzle-solving skills to clear her name, unscramble the town's darkest secrets, and track down a cold-blooded killer - before she's the next to die.

What the critics say

"Day's series debut provides some quirky characters and red herrings along with the obligatory romantic interest and recipes." ( Kirkus)

Great cozy mystery!

This was a awesome little cozy mystery however the narrator is a bit too old to be narrating in the place of a 20yr old. She was fantastic but not as a 20 yr old and it confused me and never felt right.

Narrator sounded too old for this character

It took me the first 20 chapters to feel like it wasn’t an old lady narrating a 27 year old. It was pretty distracting. Once I got over that, it was ok.

Another fun read from Maddie Day! ;)

This is the second book by Maddie Day that I’ve listened to in 24-hrs; obviously I’m enjoying them, and am happy to add a new, enjoyable Author to My list of cozy-mysteries!
Day’s Characters (and especially Protagonists) are delightful and unique, they — and the storylines — seem to breathe; surely having been the offspring of the Author’s own experiences and acquaintances on Cap Code, etc.

I’m always happy to find books that are engaging from start to finish, the best of this genre (in My opinion) being well-written, fun, quirky, lighthearted, uplifting and with mysteries being adequately challenging to solve. Personally, I find it refreshing that Day isn’t following the lead of so many cozy- mystery Writers — her stories embracing the core (and best) values of Christianity, most notably the respect, caring, and acceptance which is shared between the key individuals in her stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance by Laurel Merlington, as well!

Thank-You for including several of Day’s books in the membership!!!

Great story

except the narrator is way too old to do the voice of Robbie. Just listening I would think she was in her 50s, not 27. Hence, all the other characters sound too old to match the story. I do like Robbie's character and the story itself was entertaining.

Good story

I really enjoyed the story but will need to read the remaining myself. I cannot get past the narration the reader sound like a 80 year old not a 27 year old.
