Publisher's Summary

The war with Gaelis has gone poorly for Alex’s foes and well for his allies. He’s enriched himself, empowered his county with that coin, and built his county ever higher.

The war swings in favor of his Duchess.

Yet the war still goes on. The end doesn’t seem to be near, nor does Alex feel as if is as simple as he’d once thought it.

Alex would rather settle down in his county and live a quiet and enjoyable life. One filled with familial things and friends. Where he could make his county the pride of the empire in peace. Because he’d already gotten to the top once before. He’d climbed the corporate ladder in his previous life and missed out on really having one.

Having friends. Or just a family. Now Alex wants only for the simple things. Things that have no place on the battlefield, kingdom politics, or the courts.

That of course doesn’t matter much when fate is concerned. Or really everyone else in the empire. They all have their own plans that all seem to run counter to Alex’s.

Fortunately, Alex has been preparing. Making changes and building his foundation and seat of power ever higher.

He’s empowered the people he relies on and in. His armies are expertly trained and almost over- equipped. His treasury is overflowing and ready to be spent.

Even with all of that, Alex isn’t sure it’ll be enough for what he believes is coming.

Because spring is here. And that means roads will be opening. Passes will be traversable.

Making it possible for armies to march.

Which means it’s time for Alex to get back to work. Because more than ever he has a lot to lose, including his newborn children. If he wants to keep them safe, he’s going to have to ride to war once again.

And end it once and for all no matter the cost.

Warning: This novel explores dark subjects, and what people will give up of themselves, and each other, to get what they want.

As with my previous work, explicit scenes are found within. It has violence and a harem relationship.

Absolutely amazing!

This entire series is a masterpiece.
wonderful characters, fantastic story, high suspense without being to dark, narration is excellent. The only thing I can think of that I wasn't a fan of, is the open ending, where they mention a character from one of the authors other books and then nothing, it just ends... I had so many questions at that point.

Even still, I would highly recommend this series.

Best “harem” style fantasy book series for adults

The story is a unique take on the portal fantasy, where the protagonist makes a contract to save his soul and is transported to a (low fantasy) world where he has to make “highly favourable contracts” to satisfy his dark patron goddess. The harem occurs as he focuses on “adult-themed” contracts with uniquely talented women.

The story could have been just another trite harem fantasy, but Randi Darren hits a home run on his execution. There is no needless narration, details are provided when they are relevant, and dialogue is spot on. The protagonist is not a good guy, but has strong internal consistency and manages to be someone the readers can identify with as he makes the best of a potentially awful situation. Harem women have unique personalities and add depth to the story rather than being just another conquest.

Stephanie Savanna does an excellent job with the narration, especially the pacing and adding personality to the characters. She manages to carry both the male and female parts equally well. ; I’ve re-listened to the audible book many times just to hear a well-read story.

Rarely Praise

I very rarely find a work sufficiently impressive to praise it. My standards are high, excessively so, and as such I find most books to merely be adequate.

That being said, I can happily say that this book, as well as the rest of the multiverse, are among the few books I will happily purchase without looking through either reviews or even subject. The writing, from dialogue to character progression, is always well done, and polished so finely that I think I can see my reflection. The overarching narrative joining the different works together is quite fun, and (having read the first three books in the multiverse quite late), I have greatly enjoyed piecing the backstory together over time.

Stepping away from the writing, and taking a glance at the performance, it is without fail excellent. Emotion and engagement are easily found in the narration. The only major gripe I have in this area is one book in a series being narrated by one person, and its subsequent novels being narrated by another. The performances themselves were stellar, it was simply jarring.

In short, I would like to thank Mr. Darren for writing this work, as well as the others, and would suggest that anyone contemplating the book to stop dithering and get on with it already.

Love this series

This is one of my favorite series. I really like how the author continues to grow the world and leaves open the possibility for many more stories.

great story

the 3rd installment was great, with more of our favorite characters and more unorthodox deals. I like the story and hope it will continue. with the teases at the end and the info we got in the epilogue , I think faustering faust 4 and 5 will be better than the beginning. thanks

Really good everything

This book has some the best erotic scenes I’ve ever listened to, and the narrator is fantastic. The story is also quite good. This series is one of the best amalgamations of story, sex, and narration in this genre.

Each book gets better and better.

I cannot wait for the next book. Each book is better then the last with strong character development and a very interesting story. The naughty bits just add that little bit to make it a well rounded and wonderful book. I would choose this over G.O.T every time.

Impressive and engrossing.

On one hand I am a bit disappointed with not as much detailed interaction with some of my favorite characters but there a lot of characters so that is to be expected.

I feel like the author has done a good job with gradually increasing the scope of the larger details in world building. I was deeply invested with most of it and I felt like the pace was right for the most part.

The voice talent is very good, the characters are distinct from one another to an impressive degree. I love love love the performance of Anna.

This was a worth addition to the series which does not show signs of growing stale. I found it throughly enjoyable.

A Brilliant Series

An excellent and well-thought-out novel and hence, series. Fostering Faust has become one of my favorite series and of course, I can't wait for book four!!! A brilliant read and a brilliant performance.
