Publisher's Summary

Someone is siphoning funds from billionaire Zachary Barron's currency hedge fund. Intent on prosecuting the thief to the fullest extent of the law, he hires Katerina "Kat" Carter, the best forensic accountant in the business, to follow the money trail. Both are shocked when it leads to Zachary's father, Nathan.

And he's just the tip of the iceberg.

Nathan belongs to a shadowy organization with global ties and unimaginable resources. They already control the banking industry and the media, but their ultimate goal - the collapse of the global currency market and a new world order - will soon be within reach.

The organization learns of her involvement and sends a warning. She knows it will be her last - others who have tried to foil their agenda have met with violent deaths.

If Kat walks away and keeps her mouth shut, she'll look over her shoulder for the rest of her life in a world she'll scarcely recognize. Ignoring the threat makes her and everyone she cares about a target...or a potential traitor.

Still, as Kat Carter knows all too well...the greater the risk, the greater the reward.

And there's no hedging on this bet. It's all or nothing.

Wow!!! What a book!

Game Theory by Colleen Cross is the second book in the series featuring Katerina Carter, whom is a forensic accountant. I loved how this book is both a standalone listen and part of a series. This book has several endearing characters and several despicable ones. I thought the author wrote the character of Uncle Harry in a very sensitive manner. Alzheimer's is such a horrible disease, and so difficult to deal with. Katerina and Jace are also favorite characters of mine. I really enjoyed how the author wove several stories into one in this book. I had never really thought of elder-abuse before listening to this book, and the financial implications/consequences. Regarding another aspect of this book, the Ponzi scheme. The author wrote the details with such believability that I could see how people fall for them. The currency manipulation was another aspect that is very scary when one thinks about it. Petrea Burchard performed this book fantastically. I love how she gives distinguishable voices to the various characters. I could envision so many things with the vivid imagery in this book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. Blowout by Colleen Cross is the next book in the series.

WoW!

fraud, Alzheimer-victim, embezzling, international-crime-and-mystery, thriller

Her mother, and now her uncle were struck down with the horror that is Alzheimer's, and Kat is afraid of losing her supportive lover the way her own father ran out on them. Enter a high profile divorce case which leads to investigation of embezzlement, high finance machinations, and world finance manipulation. Add in a psychopathic killer who turns out to be Kat's cousin and you have the complex thriller that is this book which drew me in and kept me reading! Great stuff!
I have the audio narrated by Petrea Burchard who excels in this multifaceted read.
I requested and much to my delight received a free audio copy of this book. Thank you!

Even better than the first............

Game Theory is the second book in this series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. In Game Theory, Katerina Carter, a forensic accountant and fraud investigator, is tasked with solving two crimes. The first has global financial implications and the second has heartbreaking personal implications. Kat is hired by the manager of a multi-billion dollar investment fund to investigate possible fraud. This leads Kat, with the assistance of her reporter boyfriend Jase, into all kinds of adrenaline fueled situations. Kat also drags her Uncle Harry with her on all of her adventures because he is suffering from seemingly rapid onset Alzheimer's. While trying to cope with her mentally unstable uncle, look for her kidnapped boyfriend, and even getting kidnapped herself, Kat also searches for the culprit behind her uncle suddenly being robbed blind and saddled with unexplained debt. No only does she deal well with the debilitating results of dementia, but the author also pens an interesting and thought-provoking mystery with just the right amount of family and relationship drama.

Petrea Burchard narrates the first book in the series, so the continuity is great. Especially since she does such a terrific job with the narration. Her delivery is smooth and flawless, and she uses the right amount of emphasis for every mood of the story. I highly recommend this audiobook and the first book in the series, too.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

A normal woman handling life brilliantly

What I enjoy most of these stories, is that Katerina is a normal woman with a life full of obligations and relationships. In her case life also happens while work likes to intrude.

She manages to handle the ups and downs of life while still using her talents to get her work done on time and solving quite a few other mysteries in the process and getting them to contribute to her case in a wonderful way.

A book definitely worth reading, the suspense makes it very hard to put it down to do other things...

Great Second Book! Even Better Than The First

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

What a great combination of mystery, suspense, and forensic accounting! I never imagined that I’d be writing that sentence, but then I came upon this series from Colleen Cross. Her stories are smart and fun to listen to, and I really like this main character. She’s not perfect, or over powered, but she’s smart and sees things from a unique perspective. The supporting characters are richly described and well developed. Great writing.

Narration was clear and audio quality excellent. I feel as though her voice really suits the main character.

Bilderberg conspiracy theory and much more

This is the first book I've read/listen from this serie and I didn't find difficult to get into the story, so each volume is standalone.
This serie is about a fraud private investigator, Katerina Carter. The main job in this book is trying to find the reason why money is disappearing from an investment company. What seems simple enough soon turns complicated when it ties with a global conspiracy all to similar with the Bilderberg "Secret" Group, if you are familiar with the theories for their world domination.
The book does a really good job explaining all that economic complexity.
In the meanwhile, Katerina's uncle is getting alzheimer and mysteriously loosing all his savings. I have no idea how she can balance all those balls in the air and still keep herself alive.
A very good thriller indeed!
PS: Not recommended for unscrupulous people (we don't want to give them ideas, right?)

Power Corrupts

Not a "How To," but certainly a primer on currency trading and the pros and cons of a single global currency! Petrea Burchard voices the characters with her usual flair and author Colleen Cross provides a compelling travelogue (YES I want to visit western Canada!) while setting up a ripped-from-the-headlines tale of conspiracy and global domination.

No Hedging on This

I was literally on my toes listening to this book and must have had the whole book done in 2 days. I just had to find out what happened next. I truly feel this book was even better than book 1, which was super!

Kat is hired as a forensic account to hedge fund manager, Zack Barron to help distinguish assets for his divorce. Once the case as finished, Zack tells Kat that he needs her for another job, that he suspects his father, Nathan Barron, has been embezzling company funds. As she gets closer to finding out the truth, bodies start piling up, and her life as well as her beloved Jace hang on the line.......

Petrea Burchard did a fantastic job narrating this novel and I could have not thought of a more appropriate narrator for this masterpiece.

A modern day thrill ride

If you had told me this story line, I would have said it will never work! I would have been wrong. The author has wound the story lines together to create a seamless fabric that one follows along almost with out realizing! Multiple lives, stories and events play out in a few short weeks, leaving the reader breathless and on the edge of thier seat!
Ms. Burchard does a great job narrating, the voice of each character is easily recognizable thus making the tradition between storylines easy to navigate! Well done!
