Publisher's Summary

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?

Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Cute story but flawed recording

Geekerella is, as I'm sure people will guess by the princess and pumpkin on the cover, a modern day retelling of Cinderella, but set against the backdrop of sci-fi fandom. The fandom created for this series, Starfield, is absolutely stellar (no pun intended), so intricately and robustly detailed that is it almost the main protagonist. The world building here is spectacular.

I enjoyed the story, the narration was decent, but the production was kind of crappy. The chapters narrated by Tristan Morris are noticeably louder, like reach for the volume lest your ears get blasted louder. And there are so many places where different recordings are edited together sloppily, resulting in lines being repeated (Chapter 18 was particularly egregious, with three different chunks of repeated dialogue). That poor editing ripped me out of the story again and again.

I want to be there

This is one of my favourite Cinderella retelling. I knew her step sister was going to tear apart her dress, but it was still so surprising.

The performance is not the best. Some parts were repeated, but it doesn’t take away from the story.

Sage is my favourite character.
My favourite part of the story is everything about the fandom. I love a tv show and the fandom is mostly dead. This made me so excited to find others with the same interest in my show

Easy listening with a few editing issues

There were editing issues where occasionally a line was repeated, it disrupted the flow. But otherwise the story was a pleasant listen. It was kid appropriate for car rides.

Cinderella with cell phones, and i am too old

This is the story of Cinderella, but potentially how it would go in modern times. Royalty are actors, people use cellphones etc. I did know this going in but sometimes, the author can transcend the story and bring something new as in Cinder in the Lunar chronicles. This book does not transcend.

It would probably be ok for a young adult but was too old for this book.

Loved it

The volume between both characters is annoying. Hard to listening to at night. But other than that it’s an awesome story

Wow

FINALLY a Cinderella Retelling where it focuses on those of us who live and breathe Fandoms. I loved the fact it was narrated by both a male and a female because it just worked so well.

Whoa

Ok I am a big fan of teen lit - I read Veronica Roth, Stephanie Meyer, Susanne Collins and more but I could not finish this book. Possibly you actually need to be a teen to enjoy it but this was one of the few books I couldn't even finish.

Really good listen

I really liked this book! One of the narrators repeated a couple sentences, but the voices were very easy to get used to. The story was easy to follow too. I really enjoyed this book!

Cute Retelling

I thought this was a really cute Retelling of Cinderella that included some fangirl and geek moments. I thought it was a cute take on a story we've seen a thousand times before but I still would have liked a bit more from it!
