Publisher's Summary

In less than a year, Neil Peart lost both his 19-year-old daughter, Selena, and his wife, Jackie. Faced with overwhelming sadness and isolated from the world in his home on the lake, Peart was left without direction. That lack of direction lead him on a 55,000 mile journey by motorcycle across much of North America, down through Mexico to Belize, and back again. He had needed to get away, but he had not really needed a destination. His personal odyssey is chronicled with his travel adventures, meeting up with friends and family, and the grieving, thinking, crying, and storytelling of life as he rides. Along the way, he plays music from his internal jukebox, yet nothing seems to let him find peace. And without peace, all he could do was keep riding until he found it.

thank you neil peart

such a great book by inspirational man. It's unfortunate Neil had to sustain such tragedies. Glad he found himself again on the Healing Road.

The Ever Twisiting Road of Life

I find myself in tune, no pun intended, with the music I grew up on more now that ever before. I have learned that each and every musician, song writer and performer has the same trials and tribulations that we all share. They have simply at some point in life had the ability to touch us to our souls. These performers also have people they look up to and music that gave them purpose. I know that I can hear a song and most often remember exactly where I was the first time I heard it. Rush was my first concert at Edmonton's Kinsmen Field House in 1975. I decided later in life that I was going to learn to play the drums but was never really very good at it. I watched VHS tapes of drummer like Jeff Porcaro and Neil Peart but was very rarely able to duplicate anything other than just regular beats. I found Ghost Rider to be the story of a man who had life in his hands only to have it ripped away in a heart beat. His passing was hard to hear and he will be missed by fans around the world. My heart goes out to his band mates and family. Neil Peart was one of the great ones.

Resonated Fully

I loved this book. Such a vulnerable tale from a world class musician. It goes to show that celebrities are people too (though Peart didn't like the spotlight what so ever...) His tragic tale and how he got through it was very wholesome. I couldn't imagine experiencing that kind of tragedy and being able to pick yourself up and press on. Truly remarkable. Great narrating as well!

An emotional ride indeed

I have been brutally moved by this book. It is a must read for anyone who is struggling with their “baby soul.” Throughout this journey I was 2up with the Ghost Rider not knowing where I was going and hanging on for dear life. This experience made even more poignant after the death of the Ghost Rider. May he ride in peace.

Diary of a Lost Man

Heartbreaking but also hopeful. Like watching an open wound try it’s best to fight an infection and eventually winning. The wound heals, the scar remains but the lost man is given hope and found love again.

Mirror man

After losing my wife to cancer, a good friend of mine, who is also privy to my deep passion of motorcycle touring, suggested I read this book. I’m finding it hard to put into words what listening to this has meant/done to/for me. The similarity of our paths from riding out of Neepawa into the open prairie to falling in love with Moab. The unpredictability of grief as well. The triggers that slap you in the face..... as well as the ones that don’t.....I could go on and on.
Really really enjoyed this listen. Thank you for sharing Neil.

Heart breaking and healing.

Miss this guy so much. His lyrics inspired many moments in my life. Such an honor to be given a glimpse into his psyche.
