Alistair does a fair job narrating, does not change his voice much, for better or worse.
there is some new insight into what is going in Atreus' and Krotos' heads, clearing up what could be fuzzy understanding from just the game alone.
worth a read/listen if you loved GoW 2019

Sufficiently Enjoyable

I confess that I have never played the Video Game - but could see it having some fans. If this book ("The Official Novelization") is an accurate recapitulation of the game, there is a ton of action and encounter after encounter.

On the other hand.. * yawn*

Author J.M. Barlog makes it quite clear that there is no need for strategy in this game at all. The overall scenario is interesting: incorporating Norse Myth elements like the Nine Realms, Ygdrasil, the BiFrost, the World Serpent, and amusing Dwarven Craftsmen.. but it's apparently just a brute force "Upgrade Powers/Weapons and Kill sh*t" brain-candy time-waster.
The dialogue is cartoonish, the characters (surly self-banished Spartan Diety 'Kratos' and his whiny son 'Atreus') are two-dimensional, combat is well-scripted but over way too rapidly, and the description is best characterized as "adequate". Do not expect "literature".. or even reasonably mature fantasy (LitRPG beats this stuff any day of the week, for example).. but if your expectations are set low enough, 'God Of War' is a fun diversion.

Blackstone Audio do a remarkable job translating the game/book into the audiobook format, too - improving the presentation with exemplary technical standards and enlisting Alistair Duncan to read the book - yielding an entertaining product.
Duncan's voice-acting is a little over-the-top, but his natural Scottish brogue conveys a comfortable timbre & cadence.. and he clearly grasps the swashbuckling rollercoaster-ride tone of the story. This is a most enjoyable performance.

Altogether, be prepared to be underwhelmed. This audiobook rates 7 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a 'Plus' option, it's a reasonable distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons (even if you've never played the Sony Entertainment game) - but investing a Credit in it would be questionable.

Incredible adaptation!

I was blown away by the accuracy and in depth storytelling! Mimir weaved a perfect picture with his voice. One of the best video games in history turned into audiobook. We need a sequel!!!!

A great story is now greater

Oh the details, how much I missed during the gameplay. This audiobook delivers so much more, it shows what was going on inside each characters mind.
10/10…one can only hope to hear about Ragnarok

Corners cut?

Felt like a few shortcuts were taken in the middle of the book to get us to the end as fast as possible, but overall a good story
