Publisher's Summary

Sixty-six books, 40 authors, written over nearly 2,000 years, in many different genres. A worldwide best seller published in countless translations and languages. A book that has been sworn by in court, fought over, and quoted in arguments. Clearly, the Bible is no ordinary book. So how can we begin to read and understand the Bible as a whole?

In this excellent overview, Vaughan Roberts paints the big picture, showing how the different parts of the Bible fit together under the theme of the kingdom of God. He offers us tools to read it with confidence, enthusiasm and understanding. Vaughan points us to the Bible’s supreme subject, Jesus Christ, and the salvation God offers through him.

Vaughan Roberts is rector of St. Ebbe’s Church in Oxford, England, and author of God’s Big Picture and Life’s Big Questions. He is also a popular speaker at Spring Harvest and a founding member of 9:38, which encourages people to consider full-time Gospel ministry.

Insightful

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The book is very insightful and I believe it's overall truths cross the many various denominations. Only once did I feel like the author's interpretation of scripture should be challenged.

Excellent Overview of the Bible

Vaughn Roberts helps us understand that the Bible is one, continuous, cohesive story. It is God’s story. It only makes sense when you approach the Bible with this in mind. Every verse needs to be put in this context. Also, I liked that the author, himself, narrated the book. His voice is pleasant, animated and easy to listen to. And I appreciated his English accent.

a decent, good tempo of an overview

I enjoyed this overview of the Bible, the author moves along at a good tempo not getting into too much detail, but illustrating key points. his references and studies at the end of each section are helpful too, if you want to dive in deeper and really zoom in on his points.
