Story
Hot-shot lawyer McKenna Keaton finds herself in hot water with her own law firm when she’s (falsely!) accused of embezzlement. Placed on unpaid leave, she suddenly finds herself with the free time to return home and attend her youngest sister’s wedding activities. But it’s not all fun and games. Waiting back home is shy, nerdy Henry Blumenthal—McKenna’s high school rival for valedictorian who once took three hours to beat her at chess. Scratch that. He’s Hank Blume now, the famed documentarian, Durham, North Carolina’s, darling son.

Story
In her lively social history of American women and aging, acclaimed New York Times columnist Gail Collins illustrates the ways in which age is an arbitrary concept that has swung back and forth over the centuries. From Plymouth Rock (when a woman was considered marriageable if "civil and under fifty years of age"), to a few generations later, when they were quietly retired to elderdom once they had passed the optimum age for reproduction, to recent decades, American attitudes towards age have been a moving target.

Great characters
Keyes has an uncanny ability to develop the most wonderful characters and plots. Her own narration is a special treat here. Our entire Bookclub loved it. As always she centres around a more serious issue with lots of interest, humour and authentic interweavings between characters lives. Keyes is the best.

Amazing book, amazing narration
I knew almost nothing about this author or story when I began listening to the book and honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s easy to listen to, but it isn’t frivolous and it’s interesting while still being relatable. The author intertwined real life issues without you even realizing in a way that is extremely laudable.
I’m really looking forward to reading/listening to more of her work

A very entertaining listen!
I don’t normally write reviews, but I feel compelled to recommend this audio book. I just loved it; it’s long, and I listened to it quickly (I couldn’t stop) and then I listened to it again. I was completely invested in the characters, and just related to them in so many ways. The book literally made me cry, and laugh out loud. Great story, read masterfully by the author.

What a pleasure!
I’ve enjoyed several of Marian Keyes’ books before Grown Ups, but this is my new favourite. I did not seek the book because Marian was narrating, but very much enjoyed her performance of her work. Her accent, turn of phrase and pervasive humour were ear-candy that kept me laughing out loud. The characters are realistically flawed, struggling as we all do, with relationships and self-understanding.
Thanks, Marian Keyes, for this most entertaining listen.

POOR NARRATION
I feel if this book was read by another narrator the story and the people in it might have been a lot easier to follow. There were times when you could even hear her pause , swallow and then carry on. It was as if she had lost her place. If it wasn’t so monotone it might have been quite funny in parts.

I was excited to see this new book as I have enjoyed all of them. This story was weak I kept waiting for it to go somewhere and it never did. More actors, less authors
I absolutely adore Keyes' writing, but I don't think she should read her own stories. It was very hard to follow the dialogues and the storyline. I got confused about whether a new paragraph was starting.
I really appreciate the portrayal of a certain mental illness - it seems very accurate. However, I think there were just a bit too many characters in this book: This made the plot almost impossible to follow in the beginning and I feel like some could only be portrayed superficially.

Hm...
I like Marian Keyes in interviews and youtube videos and really enjoyed some of her previous books, so I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Now that I am finished after seventeen hours I am left with very mixed feelings. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I won’t elaborate on my disappointment, but, oh well, I didn’t like the ending of the one relationship I cared about and found some excessively elaborate descriptions and character arcs really dissatisfying. That said, the book is an easy listen and the many hours pass quickly.

I have read all of Marian Keyes books. They remind me of a time in my life in my twenties when I met and became friends with let’s just call her Jo. She would often buy Marian Keyes books and lend them to me when she was done.

Not all authors should narrate their own books
The story itself is, as always, a perfectly beautiful Marian Keyes delight. The only issue is the narration. A brilliant author is not automatically the best person to also narrate it. It wasn't awful, just a bit grating on one's nerves..... unless it's normal in Ireland to pronounce single words as though they are two - EG: Mouthed = Mouth-ED; Breathed = Breathe-ED; Safety = Safe-ITY; Back and Forth'd = Back and Forth-ED.
Weird.
But other than that, it's a wonderful book and I would highly recommend it.

Not my fav
I love this author but this work felt pushed. So much conversation in the first half of the book between so many characters. It’s so hard to figure out who is who. It took half the book to find any point to any of the stories and it felt like pointless chatter. Not a fan of this one.

Very disappointing
17 hours of my life that I can't ever get back. Having been a huge fan of Marian Keys, I am always excited when a new release hits the stands. This was so unlike any of her other books! Extremely dull story-line, which seemed to go on and on without much point. The plot only got exciting in the last few chapters. Boring story about a family who does nothing but holiday together, but can barely get along. Disappointing ,
