Publisher's Summary

The brand new audiobook from the best-selling author of The Break and The Woman Who Stole My Life.

They're a glamorous family, the Caseys. Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together - birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, weekends away. And they're a happy family. Johnny's wife, Jessie - who has the most money - insists on it.

Under the surface, though, conditions are murkier. While some people clash, other people like each other far too much.... Everything stays under control until Ed's wife Cara, gets concussion and can't keep her thoughts to herself. One careless remark at Johnny's birthday party, with the entire family present, starts Cara spilling out all their secrets. In the subsequent unravelling, every one of the adults finds themselves wondering if it's time - finally - to grow up?

I loved it.

Compulsively good listening. - The characters are believable and multifaceted and the conclusion satisfying. I believe this is read by the author and she has a lovely expressive voice. BRB going to get more Marian Keyes.

hard to follow

this story has a large cast, and with Irish names and the narration does not help one bit to differentiate one person from the other

Confusing

There was some really good humour parts, but overall a lot of characters and because the narrator didn’t change her way of talking at all, it ended up pretty confusing.

Great characters

Keyes has an uncanny ability to develop the most wonderful characters and plots. Her own narration is a special treat here. Our entire Bookclub loved it. As always she centres around a more serious issue with lots of interest, humour and authentic interweavings between characters lives. Keyes is the best.

Amazing book, amazing narration

I knew almost nothing about this author or story when I began listening to the book and honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s easy to listen to, but it isn’t frivolous and it’s interesting while still being relatable. The author intertwined real life issues without you even realizing in a way that is extremely laudable. I’m really looking forward to reading/listening to more of her work

Marian Keyes didn’t let us down

I love Marian Keyes’s books. Have read all of them and was really looking forward to her latest. It starts out a bit heavy, took me 1/4 of the book to be able to place the characters on the family map but the story is great, her sense of humour is still great and I really enjoy her writing. As someone with an eating disordered past I was shocked how accurate the description on Cara’s feelings were. Some characters I despised but that’s normal. I had to get used to her narration and there was one thing I personally didn’t like. Most of the Italian words are badly mispronounced. That hurt. It would have taken very little to find out how to pronounce them since she herself chose to include them in the book. Still, excellent writing, thank you.

Hm...

I like Marian Keyes in interviews and youtube videos and really enjoyed some of her previous books, so I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Now that I am finished after seventeen hours I am left with very mixed feelings. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I won’t elaborate on my disappointment, but, oh well, I didn’t like the ending of the one relationship I cared about and found some excessively elaborate descriptions and character arcs really dissatisfying. That said, the book is an easy listen and the many hours pass quickly.

Very disappointing

I tried and tried to finish this book but just couldn't - and after many attempts and re-listening to chapter I still don't know what the point of it was. It was so disconnected and very hard to get into any single part of it with any interest. Don't waste your credits.

Not all authors should narrate their own books

The story itself is, as always, a perfectly beautiful Marian Keyes delight. The only issue is the narration. A brilliant author is not automatically the best person to also narrate it. It wasn't awful, just a bit grating on one's nerves..... unless it's normal in Ireland to pronounce single words as though they are two - EG: Mouthed = Mouth-ED; Breathed = Breathe-ED; Safety = Safe-ITY; Back and Forth'd = Back and Forth-ED. Weird. But other than that, it's a wonderful book and I would highly recommend it.

More actors, less authors

I absolutely adore Keyes' writing, but I don't think she should read her own stories. It was very hard to follow the dialogues and the storyline. I got confused about whether a new paragraph was starting. I really appreciate the portrayal of a certain mental illness - it seems very accurate. However, I think there were just a bit too many characters in this book: This made the plot almost impossible to follow in the beginning and I feel like some could only be portrayed superficially.

Not my fav

I love this author but this work felt pushed. So much conversation in the first half of the book between so many characters. It’s so hard to figure out who is who. It took half the book to find any point to any of the stories and it felt like pointless chatter. Not a fan of this one.

Very disappointing

17 hours of my life that I can't ever get back. Having been a huge fan of Marian Keys, I am always excited when a new release hits the stands. This was so unlike any of her other books! Extremely dull story-line, which seemed to go on and on without much point. The plot only got exciting in the last few chapters. Boring story about a family who does nothing but holiday together, but can barely get along. Disappointing ,

Marian never disappoints

As always, listening to Marian was like having a comforting chat with an old friend. This audiobook helped get me through some of the horrendous anxiety of lockdown. Thanks Marian. Your die-hard fan always.

Love this book

I'm a big fan of Marion Keyes. She's added a few serious themes to this book, as well as the usual comedy. She's narrated herself.

She did it again!

I have been a Marian Keyes fan since a fellow backpacker gave me Lucy Sullivan is getting married in London in 2000. I have read every book since and buy it without even reading what it’s about. So you know I’m a fan and this might be biased. I discovered Audible only 3 years ago when my son was born. So this was my first MK book on Audible - and read by the author. I LOVED IT. I might never get to Ireland to have lunch with the Keyes family but this felt very close!
