Publisher's Summary

Don't miss the first-ever young adult fiction novel based on the megahit Halo video game series!

Saskia, Dorian, Evie, and Victor aren't exactly friends at their small high school on the middle-of-nowhere colony world of Meridian. Each has their own problems, from absent parents to supporting their family, getting into a good college to making the next hit holo-film. But those problems were nothing next to the threat now facing their world: The alien alliance known as the Covenant is laying siege to Meridian, for reasons that aren't so easily explained.

With their village in flames, the four teens find themselves stuck aboveground, locked out of the town shelter where the rest of the survivors are gathered. Together, Saskia, Dorian, Evie, and Victor are thrust into battle with nothing but a few scavenged weapons and an injured Spartan, one of the UNSC's super-soldiers. What's forged from the destruction will determine the fate of Meridian, and tilt the battle for humanity's survival.

New ideas take time to catch

It was a decent story line. Unfortunately if you've read the majority of the halo novel series, especially the older ones like ghosts of Onyx, and contact harvest you may take some time to adjust to the new style of story telling.

Narrator is Trash

I have read every halo book through many times, and have all that are available on audiobook. These I listen to most of the time while driving and love them. That said, I could not even finish this audiobook. The narrators consistent need to sound like she’s trying to whisper a child to sleep, appalling attempts at correctly timed inflection, and frankly offensive rendition of a male voice make this awe fun to listen to. Every action section or male character sounds like an attempt at satire. If you want a good female narrator, listen to Halo: Renegades. She understands what a book like this should read as.

you got to listen to this book

I would say that this book has been the most chair gripping experience I have ever heard. I swear to God I found myself sitting at the edge of my seat listening intently to this beautiful also, remind me of ghosts of onyx. I take that back legacy of onyx. it also kind of symbolizes kind of like a red Dawn d mixed in with the fact that they're trying to save their town and then being request to save their planet. this I will say I thought at first that this book would be like one of those nonchalant slow versions of the Halo universe. but I realize that there are so much more to this book I really think if the author is reading this post it is one of the best books ever listen to please. I would love to hear what happens to these kids cuz they sound awesome as a group. and romantic note it is kind of funny. I believe that if anyone is reading this post get a chance. at the beginning of this book you might turn away but I strongly do not. and I will be very blunt and to the point there are some dull points and there are some romantic and there's also some serenity and seriousness action like you wouldn't believe. also the person who reads this book she does a great job and is down I say keep it up I would like to hear you and more Halo books and I wish you much much success. and also write this to the author who wrote the book make another one I'd love to hear more.

There is a Spartan in it.

There was a spartan, but he could have been replaced with any drill sergeant. I assume they're going to be a second book coming, it left more questions than answers.

Decent young adult story, if you can hear it

Narrator reads like she's whispering a conspiracy theory, sometimes so quiet that she's hard to hear. Her male voices sound like they have bad colds.
Otherwise, it's a fairly entertaining YA story, where the teens are in charge of trying to save the world.

The book whisperer

I have no idea why the narrator read this entire book in an ASMR whisper. This audiobook reading made me seriously consider just reading the book. I had a pretty hard time consistently paying attention to the story thanks to the book whisperer.

b+ for the first 1/3. A- middle. A+ finish

returned renagades due to narrator and got this instead. it was a good choice.

it starts like a teen drama show would start and I was not too into it but stuck it out. the narration is really good and helped hold up the story. but it picked up after a little bit and started to develop into a decent halo novel. the end is exactly what I expect from a halo book with a perfect narration for it.

There were moments I'd rather do without like
"jealous in a boyfriend way" and blurting out "he likes you" but even though these were eye role moments they quickly got back on track and didn't look back to much.

starting 2nd listen will edit if opinion changes

edit 2nd time through went smoother and was damn good

surprisingly good

Great entry. honestly didnt expect much as its geared more towards the YA crowd. the narrator is amazing though and the story compelling enough to keep me entertained the while way through
