Story
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

A great travel buddy
Our family greatly enjoyed listening to this on our road trip. The kids preferred to hear Harry Potter over watching DVD’s.

Not as good as book 1
Fantastic narration but the story wasn’t as compelling as book 1. I will go on with the series.

Fabulous Book, Okay Narrator
Obviously the book is a well-loved classic, and I knew that re-reading this in audible form, I would love it just as much. However, the narrator is not at all my favorite. It was read at a good pace and the descriptions and general story were easy to listen to, but the way he read people's voices and conversations bugged me a lot. He would drag out words that I would read short, and changed the way characters said things from the way they are described. It made a lot of the talking points a bit hard to listen to, it got a bit irksome! I may be being a bit hard on it though, as I have read the books so many times and watched the movies, that things are burned in my mind a certain way and I don't love when it is changed up.

Magical
Jim Dale does a wonderful job narrating this book and using different voices for each character. My 6 and 8 year olds listened to this book with me and were so intrigued.
