Publisher's Summary

Selected as one of Audible's best audiobooks of 2021

Jason wakes up in a mysterious world of magic and monsters.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil.

He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

After cementing itself as one of the best-rated serial novels on Royal Road with an astonishing 13 million views, He Who Fights with Monsters is now brought to you in professionally formatted audio.

Glad I didn't uninstall

The first hour or two wasn't great. Generic. But maaaan does it pick up afterwards. Book goes from "Did I really buy this?" to "how much time is left? awwww!" after a few chapters.

Hilarious

The combat itself is good but I think the comedy is what makes this audio book absolutely shine, it was hilarious and I loved every minute of it xD

I loved it!

This book one of the best LitRPG books on Audible, and it just arrived! It was very funny, half because of the way the MC is written, and half because the narrator did a fantastic job with the characters. The plot was easy to follow and progresses at a very good pace. The MC's friends come in and out of the picture, never taking up too much or too little time. They aren't annoying leeches (hah) that cling to the MC, or go along with everything he says just because he's the MC, which is common in this genre. There is a little romance, but it's well done and barely part of the story, with the love interest being stronger than our MC (so far at least), which again, unusual for this genre. The ranking system is easy to follow and understand. Power scaling is good, there's no super OP abilities with 0 drawbacks which is refreshing. Side characters are used well, and aren't thrown away after a few lines so they can actually contribute to the story. The God's in particular interest me, I hope we can get more info on them in the second book!

Overall, solid 10/10 book.
I cannot wait for the second book, 2 months has never seemed so far away..

Very Different

Full disclaimer, I've never read a LitRPG before.

That being said this is a very interesting book. Entertaining and funny. The narration style change when reading out abilities and attributes is a bit jarring but not overly so.

The ideas and systems being thrown around are very cool and overall the book is well written but I occasionally thought I had missed something. The transitions between scenes weren't explicit and I'd find my self rewinding to figure out what had happened. Plots were dropped for whole chapters with no reference to them and then picked back up.

Overall though I found it enjoyable. If you are into a fish out of water tale with a fantasy twist this might be right down your alley.

Too much system.

This book is probably about 60% explaining the leveling system and 40% actual story. the 40% is really good but it got really bogged down in the meta system.

good buy

if you can hold out for about 3 hours the book will get good. it starts off slowly and you'll think it's a load of shit but it's probably one if the better books on Audible.

Did we all mention how GrEaT JaSoN iS?

I wanted to like this book but damn.

It seems like every other sentence is someone praising the main character for how unusual and clever and capable he is, while he dumps snark on the world after immediately becoming inexplicably op.

Reads like one of those guilty pleasure vain daydreams of personal vindication that are common in most people's middle school years, when they are having trouble fitting in. Except it someone else's daydream, and you just have to fight off the nausea of watching an entire plane of reality suck up to him.

Also prepare to have socialist ideals rammed down your throat every page while them steamroller strawman opposition.

Not sure what the appeal is!

If only I could give it more stars

Out of the 85 titles I have listened to this is heads and tales the best audiobook. Amazing attention to voices by the narrator. Riveting for beginning to end. Love it the most <3 Thanks you Shirtaloon and Heath Miller! Too much fun.

A total surprise.

I gotta be honest I don't write reviews often even for books I love because reviews are so subjective but I really love this book. I have not finished the book yet I'm about 11houtd from completion but I am seriously hoping that there will be a 2nd book in this universe I love the adventures Jason gets into
