ABOUT THIS AUDIBLE ORIGINAL

Please note: This content is not for kids. It is for mature audiences only. This audio comedy features sexual content, adult language and themes, and violence against peasants and hobgoblins alike. Discretion is advised.

Heads Will Roll is an Audible Original from Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon and her cocreator/costar (and real-life sister) Emily Lynne. Produced by Broadway Video, this is not an audiobook - it’s a 10-episode, star-studded audio comedy that features performances from Meryl Streep, Tim Gunn, Peter Dinklage, Queer Eye’s Fab Five, and so many more.

Queen Mortuana of the Night Realm (McKinnon) and her ditsy raven minion JoJo (Lynne) receive a prophecy about a peasant uprising. Together, they must journey to find the “Shard of Acquiescence”, which will put down the rebellion and save the throne. Will their friendship survive sensitive generals, chatty sex slaves, whiny behemoths, princes with bird fetishes, and the notion of democracy?

This raunchy satire also includes the wicked talents of Andrea Martin, Carol Kane, Audra McDonald, Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Heidi Gardner, Chris Redd, Steve Higgins, Bob the Drag Queen, Esther Perel, and more. So, hold on to your head, and let the bad times roll.

The Best

This was amazing. Kate MacKinnon is a comedic genius. She always makes me laugh but this was full belly laughs from beginning to end. I love how she can make you root for an unloveable tyrannical Queen. JoJo and Galafar really take this story to the next level. Their characters are everything. JoJo has so many amazing one liners if you listen carefully. The Best.

Shamefully awful and disappointing.

I am a HUGE Kate Mckinnon fan (well, was), and I'm the perfect audience for paid, scripted audio, since I'm an avid and daily audiobook, radio drama and podcast listener. I've been yearning for scripted audio since I often need a break from the crime and heavy material that comes in most podcasts and the mystery-suspense books I tend to listen to. That's when, due to a lack of scripted audio, I listen to a sitcom episode on Youtube, but find that I'm missing the visual cues so I was VERY looking forward to a scripted audio production, and super thrilled that my favourite comedienne was producing one. But...

Wow. Where do I start? You know all those really awful, unfunny SNL skits that you cringe your way through, waiting for a really funny one to appear? They're usually sexual in nature, but in a very immature, horny 12-yr-old-boy, cringy, super-uncomfortable, so-not-funny way. Well imagine if the entire show was like that, start to finish--including fake commercials that are no better than the terrible show..

I was so disappointed in it and Kate McKinnon, I wanted to cry. I felt like I found out my best friend was a heroine junkie who stole from a charity to feed her habit. That's how much my respect for her dropped. And I say that with a very pained heart, because I truly love this woman's talent. But this is not talent. I don't know if this is who she really is, or if she's been so surrounded by stoned, immature, horny boys that she was brainwashed into believing that a story about keeping a stable of "f_ck boys" or commercials about "lawn sh_t" is funny, or what, but I'm honestly ashamed of it.

The story is not at all entertaining in any way. It's just one crude, senseless, disjointed series of crude remarks after another. I can't even call them jokes, because that's how UNfunny they are. Audible needs to remember that its audience is mostly professionals (and female) who have the finances to PAY for audiobooks, not horny boys and stoners who tune in for free after a night of drinking and drugging. That's the only audience I can see enjoying this garbage. And I truly, truly am so saddened to say this, but I'm being honest.

It was so bad that I couldn't stomach any more of it after just 3 episodes. $14.95 down the drain, but that's not what bothers me most. It's that my love and respect for an adored comedienne has gone down the drain with it. With this production, her reputation has followed her material down the gutter.

And since I'm on the subject of Kate McKinnon, could someone please tell her that when she licks other actors' tongues that she's putting herself at risk of contracting many diseases transmitted through saliva, including hepatitis B, herpes simplex 1 and 2, streptococcus, mono, Epstein Barr, cytomegalovirus, foot-and-mouth-disease and....HIV. Yes, it has been found in saliva (released after brushing teeth). It's an extremely high health risk for a no longer funny, tired gag.

As for "Heads Will Roll", don't expect to laugh or be entertained, unless you've taken a load of drugs and can't find your way out of your parent's basement.

Signed,

Broken-hearted fan.

Entertaining and different than most audibles.

If you love Kate McKinnon than you will enjoy this regardless.
The concept was cool... a few aspects overly repetitive and slap stick
Overall I enjoyed it and will always support funny and intelligent women.

Poor audio and not that funny

I’m a huge Kate McKinnon fan. Love her voice and her characters. But this was just silly in an unfunny way. The story was okay. But the sound editing was horrible! The voices would be very quiet, so I’d turn up the volume, turn up the volume, rewind the bit I missed, turn up the volume......then get blasted in the ear balls with the crazy theme song.......this happened over 20 times. Pissed me off royally! Pun intended.
The songs of the bards were quite cool and clever, but again there were lots of sound issues. Too quiet to hear and then shrill singing.
There were some funny silly parts but over all I didn’t enjoy it. Would not recommend, mainly because it’s been 2 days and I can’t get the theme song out of my head!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr!

It was ok

I love all of the voice actors, but I think they were writing film humour for an audio story and it didn’t translate very well.

could not get through this book

I usually like multi narrators in a story but this book was over the top for me. I found it silliness upon silliness throughout.
the narrators were good but the book wasn't for me.

I'm so sick of the left wing slant on everything

tired of books promoting a left wing agenda in our entertainment- Rachael madcow and Don Lemon are left wing puppet liars and you promote them to be some kind of hero- 0 stars if I could
