Extremely helpful, especially in therapy.
I have read many books on trauma, this is in my top ten.
Very insightful, helped me understand myself and my behaviours a bit more. For the first time in my life I finally see that I need to develop more self-compassion and less criticism of myself. I'd recommend this as a must read for any trauma survivor.
My only negative comment would be regarding the narrator- absolutely awful, but the subject matter was engrossing enough that I was able, for the most part, to move past it:)

A MUST for every therapist

Great for trauma survivors

Even though I had some information about Internal Family Systems and familiar with Richard Schwartz, the approach Janina Fisher employs and the logical way she presents how to connect with and approach "Parts" work made it incredibly accessible. A lot of great information
It's a lot of information to get through and to digest. Some parts are difficult to get through if your reading this for self-help. The reward of understanding yourself so much better is certainly worth it.
I was very annoyed with the narration at first, but the content was well worth it. I would say that the voice is over-synthesized or something. it comes off as though siri or Google is reading you a story at times

Anyone with a difficult spouse, crying or argumentative should read this
This book was amazing. I suffer from dissociative states from early in life and have had to relearn how to feel and organize what feels like a scattered brain. I’ve read.., allllllll the books about trauma and dissociation, this gave great practical tools and examples. I also recommend anchored by Donna something. They have really helped me get a grasp on the current moment and how to begin recovering. Theory is just not enough, thanks for these incredible tools to begin living life again,

Could be better
This book was really good except that it really only addressed childhood trauma. There was virtually no focus on trauma in adulthood that causes dissociation. There also seemed to be a bias that once you are an adult, you are safe. There is a lack of understanding of oppressive and even abusive forces in adulthood that create dynamics similar to childhood.
