Diet is an essential component of a client's clinical profile. Few therapists, however, have any nutritional training, and many don't know where to begin. In Nutrition Essentials for Mental Health, Leslie Korn provides clinicians with a practical guide to the complex relationship between what we eat and the way we think, feel, and interact with the world. Where there is mental illness there is frequently a history of digestive and nutritional problems. Digestive problems in turn exacerbate mental distress.

Story
Many of us experience signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance every day. Do you have trouble dragging yourself out of bed in the morning? Ever have an uncontrollable sugar craving at three pm? Chronic headaches? Lack of energy? Do you get stressed just sitting in your office? Our bodies are wired to send us signals when something isn't right, but often we're too busy to hear them. Compounding the problem is a lack of understanding about the consequences if these symptoms are left unaddressed.

Why are people gaining weight faster than ever before? According to Alan Christianson, NMD, our bodies are under attack from all directions - an overabundance of processed food, a polluted world, and the pressures of daily life all take their toll. These attacks hit a little known but very important set of glands, the adrenals, particularly hard. One of the many jobs of the adrenals is to maintain a normal cortisol rhythm.

What were you doing in your life before you got sick? This is a common question Dr. Izabella Wentz asks her functional medicine clients when trying to get to the root cause of symptoms ranging from low energy, to dependency on caffeine, to sleeplessness and poor memory. More often than not, she finds these individuals developed their symptoms after a period of acute or chronic stress: starting a new business, having a baby, living though a global pandemic—these can all destroy our once-resilient stress response.

Story
The relationship between the body and the brain is necessary to function at our best today and for the rest of our lives. Designed for the female brain - which is different from the male brain - her breakthrough protocol will help you lose weight, get off harmful prescription medications, boost energy and mental functioning, and alleviate depression and anxiety in less than six weeks.
Written by: Sara Szal Gottfried
Publisher's Summary
A Harvard physician’s scientifically proven method to improve your physical and mental health by optimizing your hormones in your 30s, 40s, and beyond....
Dr. Sara Gottfried refuses to accept the traditional medical thinking that feeling cranky, asexual, tapped out, and sleep-deprived is just part of being female and aging, and that prescription medication will fix all problems. Offering solutions in nonjudgmental and thoughtful language, Dr. Gottfried provides a novel plan based on solid scientific research. She believes you don’t find a cure at the bottom of a pill bottle. A specialist in functional and integrative therapies, Dr. Gottfried bases her three-step treatment strategy on 10 years’ study of cutting-edge techniques and ancient treatments validated by current medical research. The plan includes supplements and targeted lifestyle changes that address underlying deficiencies, herbal therapies, and bio-identical hormones—most available without a prescription.
Easy to understand and highly illuminating, The Hormone Cure demonstrates how balancing your hormones can actually cure underlying health issues, alleviate symptoms, and give women a life of increased energy, sensuality, and resilience.

A great book for women by a female scientist and physician
A comprehensive and integrated approach of Western medicine and Eastern practices to help us women to understand the different hormone functions in our body and what to do when they are out of balance.
The science and biochemistry part is not the easiest to understand but Dr. Gottfried lays out the protocol clearly on what to do in different hormonal circumstances.
