Publisher's Summary

Nothing interferes with Shane Hollander's game - definitely not the sexy rival he loves to hate.

Pro hockey star Shane Hollander isn't just crazy talented, he's got a spotless reputation. Hockey is his life. Now that he's captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, he won't let anything jeopardize that, especially the sexy Russian whose hard body keeps him awake at night.

Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov is everything Shane's not. The self-proclaimed king of the ice, he's as cocky as he is talented. No one can beat him - except Shane. They've made a career on their legendary rivalry, but when the skates come off, the heat between them is undeniable. When Ilya realizes he wants more than a few secret hookups, he knows he must walk away. The risk is too great.

As their attraction intensifies, they struggle to keep their relationship out of the public eye. If the truth comes out, it could ruin them both. But when their need for each other rivals their ambition on the ice, secrecy is no longer an option...

I loved it!

I’d already read the book, so it’s nice to listen to the audiobook while walking or cleaning. Great narrator. Awesome love story.

Great story - a few niggles with narration

I love all of Rachel Reid's hockey novels. the characters, the stories... amazing!
As a Canadian, I found the narrator's mispronunciations of Canadian placenames jarred me out of the flow of the story, especially "Regina"! I would think the name of a city would be easy to research..... :( Saskatchewan I can forgive, even Canadian's have trouble getting it correct. I thought the Russian accent was just "okay".

Book good, narrator dreadful

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It follows Two hockey players through many years starting just before they get drafted to rival nhl teams. The boys are very different but share a deep competitiveness and confusing sexual attraction.

For much of the book it is just little snapshots of brief encounters with each other and with assorted minor characters. Until they are men who finally fall in love. I thought it was quite well done.

The narration made me want to smack someone. I read a friend’s review who said how happy they were the narration improved from book one. I can hardly imagine it being worse. All the accents varied in style and thickness throughout the book. The women’s accents were painful to listen to. The tone often did not match text. For example one line was said at top volume with the next bit of dialogue something like “he said softly”. And then there was the inability to say Canadian place names. Ok Saskatchewan can be hard for some but Regina is not hard. They even have a slogan about their name rhyming with Vagina.

I enjoyed reading Heated Rivalry but listening to it , was even better!

Few months ago, during an Ice Hockey reading mood , I "discovered" Rachel Reid and her Ebook, Heated Rivalry .

Simply explained... It is one of the hottest and sweetest, Enemies to Lovers , MM Sports Romance I have ever read . And now, I am adding listened, to the statement above.

Tor Thom narration was phenomenal.
He embodied über confident , Bad Boy of Hockey ,and Russian Sex God, Ilya Rozanov perfectly. He nailed Ilya's Russian accent . It was even better than the one in my head.

The same goes for his portrayal of Canadian , all around good guy, sweet , friendly and charismatic , Good Boy of Hockey Shane Hollander.

And the hot AF, descriptive dirty-sexy and utterly delicious sexy times were AMAZING.

Full disclosure, I was a bit hesitant about buying this audio. Tor Thom is a , new to me, narrator and the reviews of Game Changer, book 1 were polarizing; some loved it passionately , others didn't. However, I followed my gut and liked the audio sample of this book Heated Rivalry . I am incredibly happy I took the chance as I clearly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I am still on the fence about book 1 , Game Changer and it's more than likely , I will be skipping it.

Rachel Reid book and Tor Thom performance deserve my treasured audio credits. And that folks, is one high compliment coming from a certified audio credit hoarder, as me.😁😊😁😉 It's funny because is true!!!

5 stars for book 1 & 2

These books are brilliant. The writing is great, and so are the characters. I wasn’t sure about the narrator at first, but I fell in love with him also.

I love hockey books.

Alright. I don’t have any idea why. I don’t like hockey but I love hockey books. I have read any hockey book I can get my hands on; the good, the bad, the brilliant. I think I have listened to every M/M hockey book on audible and this my friends.... is the best.

It starts with a simple rivals to lovers story but it quickly gives each character so much depth and background as they struggle to come to terms with who they are from age 18 on. Ilya who is comfortable in his skin and identity but comes from a tough background and an unforgiving country and Shane who is struggling with who he is.

These two wouldn’t have worked if they had truly dated when they were 19 but as they aged they kinda became perfect for one another. No one can understand them like the other and so many times in romance novels you get the story but you don’t feel the connection. This book you totally get the connection, the feelings, the history and I just want to keep relistening over and over.

Buy it. Now. Do it. Worth all the credits.

And yes Tor’s accent for Kip in the previous book is well.... not the best and off putting but I’ve listened to him before and he’s brilliant and he BRINGS it full force in this one.

It is harder to write praise than criticism but my gawd this book is just amazing.

A new author for me!♡♡♡♡♡

I have had the pleasure of read and listening to lots if not hundreds of MM romance books. While this author is new to me I have found her work to be among some of the best writers of MM romances. I'm talking about the talented Lucy Lennox, Eden Finley and the lovely sisters Becca & Krista Ritchie. This book contains a bunch of hockey, which some sports romances don't. It is so well written, it gives the history of both Shane & Ilya and the progression of their relationship. I found myself finishing this book in one day, it was that good. I highly recommend both this author and this book series to others. Happy Reading book lovers!

Great story. Great narration.

I had mixed feelings about the first book in this series. I picked up the second one because there was a sale. I am very glad that I did. i enjoyed the characters so much more in this book. The dynamic was more interesting to me.

Why enemies to lovers relationships seem more realistic to me than a pro hockey player meeting a love interest at a smoothie joint, I have no idea.

Narration also seemed more comfortable in this book too. I have already purchased the next book in this series, and I will be probably keep reading/listening as long as the characters are still engaging.

Shane & Ilya

Shane and Ilya. Swoon. You know the characters you can’t get out of your head when you finish reading their book? This is the case for me with these two - Shane and Ilya. They just have staying power. I’ve read this twice, and loved it more each time. I recently read the fourth book in this series where Ilya makes a cameo appearance. It started me thinking about these two all over again, so I grabbed the audio to get a different perspective of these two. This was a new to me narrator and he did a great job bringing this story to life for me. I thought his narration for Ilya was fantastic, and it totally worked for me. He drew me into the story, and while known to me, he still kept me sneaking listens in whenever I could. For those new to Shane and Ilya, you’re in for a great with this book. While second in the series, it can standalone, however I recommend the whole series. It hit so many high points for me: closeted athletes, first times and hockey! Their story was truly an emotional ride and I got all the feels with their story. I laughed, I cheered, and I got teary. Oh! And holy hotness! So much sexy times and chemistry between Shane and Ilya. The chemistry was SO hot. Being a big hockey fan myself, I definitely had a certain set of hockey players in my mind for this story. Despite that (haha), it was a great read and I enjoyed the narration as well. I would highly recommend this to hockey fans and MM romance readers alike!

ughhh, the narration...

i absolutely loved this book, that's why i decided to listen to the positive comments and give the audio a try.
i really tried to like it...i mean, the narrator's voice isn't unpleasant and he isn't horrible, he's just...flat. where is Ilyia's sassiness and the humor and, most importantly, the scorching hot intimacy between these characters!??
yeah, just...nope:((

Um, yeah. I liked it....

The text I sent my book bestie upon finishing this book:

my mind is 100% in denial that Heated Rivalry has ended. i'm so in love the characters and their story. i felt like i was just following along with their life stories, so even though i finished it last night i keep thinking "oh i should catch up with ilya and shane" LIKE THEY'RE REAL PEOPLE. 😞 and the worst part isn't that my subconscious has been tricked into thinking that i have these awesome new friends who also happen to let me watch them have sex on occasion- it's the UTTER sadness I feel when I remember that they AREN'T REAL. AND that THEIR BOOK HAS ENDED. 😭😭😭😭 What do I read now?? I need something on par and that's going to be hard to find... That book was TOO GOOD! 😭😭😭
