Publisher's Summary
A revolutionary approach to the techniques of working with horses, by a renowned instructor.
In Horses Never Lie, renowned horse trainer Mark Rashid challenges the conventional wisdom of "alpha leadership" and teaches the listener to become a "passive leader" - a counterpart to the kind of horse other members of a herd choose to associate with and to follow. Applying Rashid’s principles and techniques helps cultivate horse personalities that are responsive and dependable regardless of the rider. Reliving Rashid’s experiences with him, you will come to feel the same sort of compassion and appreciation for your horses that you do for the people in your life. This new edition features added introductory notes for each chapter that contribute to a more complete understanding of Rashid’s methods and philosophy.

Not just for horse lovers
This is the third Mark Rashid book I’ve listened to on Audible Plus. Although my interaction with horses has been next to zero, Rashid is an engaging storyteller who is a keeen and compassionate observer of both horses and people.
Narrator Dan Lawson has very clear diction, which I mistook for stiffness, but his reading was actually very smooth and flowing. Every T was crisp and never used a D sound. The singular indefinite article “a” was always given a long A sound, never a schwa (“uh”) sound.
I found that last part oddly fascinating, as I have never encountered that before, and it is clearly his usual pronunciation— he even used it in dialogue. This precision is probably helpful for hard-of-hearing listeners, but it took me a little while to get used to. It would not put me off other audiobooks by this narrator, however.

The narrator was able to bring the book to life. Each chapter was informative, and I look forward to building with my horse.

Great book.... ok narration
I was looking for a book about leadership, not horse leadership. But this book was so good. The stories, advice, & lessons can be applied across our lives & relationships with people, as well as horses. So glad I kept going even when it became obvious that this was a horse specific book. The narration was not that good. Very staccato and clipped.

Insightful
Valuable stories and insights for any horse owner, only critique is that the reader did not pronounce dressage correctly lol.

Easy listen full of great information
In searching for training methods for my 3 year old, I came across Mark Rashid’s books. His philosophy of a passive leader really resonated with me and what I have observed within my own herd. I am interested in philosophies that do not involve forcing or trying to dominate the horse. I have seen how their use really changed the relationship between horse and rider and took the sparkle out of the horse’s eye along with their try and did not want this for my new colt. Training ideas and strategies for various problems and situations are delivered via very interesting anecdotes that make listening easy and enjoyable. Some horse training books are so heavy and dry that they are hard to get through. Mark’s style is an easy listen full of great info that I kept finding myself going back to so that I could hear it again. Thank you Audible for having many of Rashid’s books available included with membership. My only word of caution is that the narrator messed up a number of equine words….track room instead of tack room, dressage….along with a couple every day words too which was a little annoying but isn’t enough to detract from the overall value of the information.

love the content...
I actually love the content of this book and was so happy when it was included in my subscription.
Unfortunately, I don't feel the voice fits the story, and although he would probably do great with some, I am having a really hard time getting through the book.
Thankfully the content is keeping me happy.

Reader not great
The book, it’s content and the author are wonderful! The reader mispronounced many of the terminology, which was disappointing to hear.

Great book! More attention to detail needed in narration.
As usual Rashid provides amazing guidance through storytelling. The only drawback is with the production. Constant mispronunciations of common equine terms was disappointing.
