Story
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. Tought start, worth pushing through
I started this book several times, never making it past the first few chapters. I was excited for the new release and bought without question. I was surprised and disappointed with the change in the authors tone. The story was hard to follow. The actions of the characters and their frequent and heavy use of corse language was hard to listen to. Out of credits, I was about to admit defeat and exchange this one.
I gave it one more go. I loved all the authors other works after all. Chapter 6 and the story changed. The language went back to similar level of cursing as in other works. The characters became more likeable and the story sucked you into another world. Worth sticking to it and experiencing another great story.

This was painful
I have read other books by this author with mixed reviews depending on the book. But this one was just painful. In the beginning I kept pausing to google and see if I missed something. Was this actually the second or third book in the series? No the author was just very bad an explaining the intricate fantasy world this book is in. It was 1 hr and 12 min into the book when the author decided to finally describe what the MAIN character looked like. The story had some good ideas, and a few good parts. But over all it was painful, annoying and a chore to listen to.

I laughed, got mad, my heart broke, and I cried!
Honestly, this read started out ssssllloow. But I'm telling you now, it's worth every freaking second. This book is so well written. The slow parts for character development are absolutely needed and pay off. This book in the last 20 chapters is such an emotional rollercoaster of a read, that I'm officially wrecked. WRECKED!!!! 10 Stars !

I love this story. It goes so quickly and the narrator does an amazing job identifying each character when speaking so following a conversation is effortless. A story I will come back to again and wish there was another in the series.
