From tuberculosis to bird flu and HIV to coronavirus, these infectious diseases share a common origin story: Human interaction with animals. Otherwise known as zoonotic diseases for their passage from animals to humans, these pathogens - both pre-existing ones and those newly identified - emerge and re-emerge throughout history, sparking epidemics and pandemics that have resulted in millions of deaths around the world. How did these diseases come about? And what - if anything - can we do to stop them and their fatal march into our countries, our homes, and our bodies?

What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

We’ve been told that a vegetarian diet can feed the hungry, honor the animals, and save the planet. Lierre Keith believed in that plant-based diet and spent twenty years as a vegan. But in The Vegetarian Myth, she argues that we’ve been led astray - not by our longings for a just and sustainable world, but by our ignorance. e truth is that agriculture is a relentless assault against the planet, and more of the same won’t save us. In service to annual grains, humans have devastated prairies and forests, driven countless species extinct, altered the climate, and destroyed the topsoil - the basis of life itself....

How Not to Diet WORKS!
I was literally jumping for joy when How Not to Diet finally arrived on my doorstep, and even more thrilled to be listening to the audio book, narrated by the delightful Dr Greger himself.
I can't emphasize this enough. This is the holy grail of "diet" books. In their latest not-for-profit crusade, and in unprecedented fashion throughout the multibillion dollar diet industry, Dr Michael Greger and 115 of NutritionFacts.org's volunteer researchers have undertaken the seemingly insurmountable task of vetting and reviewing countless studies to present the best evidence to date on what works and doesn't work for healthy long-term weight loss, revealing vital groundbreaking surprises in a blend of modalities to expedite fat loss while optimizing nutrition, health and longevity, debunking long standing myths and some of the most harmful popular diet trends that tend to throw caution to the wind in favor of short-term superficial results, if any.
This book is ground zero, redefining weight management for the generations to come, by way of preventative approaches to combating the leading causes of death and disease.
There is a sincere warmth that emanates from Dr Greger's words in How Not to Diet, that creates a safe atmosphere around an emotionally charged topic. His big picture examination of the factors that effect weight are presented in a way that comprehensively demystifies, with credible evidence based science, perhaps the most convoluted health subject of our time. Coupled with his light hearted humour, the book is fascinating and engaging, with meaningful entertaining details jeweled throughout. Reading this book, not only brought me clarity after decades of personal weight struggles, but unexpectedly released a deep shame I'd carried with me, by illuminating the biological, environmental, lifestyle and nutritional mechanisms that play an intricate role in how and why our bodies store excess fat. Meanwhile, he presents clear uplifting solutions that empower the reader to take immediate action with an abundant spectrum of positive habits to add to one's routine, to crowd out choices that might be detracting from optimal progress. A focus on abundance as opposed to deprivation, it's a refreshing and effective approach. I am taken with such gratitude for the extraordinary effort made by Dr Greger and his team of researchers in putting together this wealth of knowledge in such an inviting, nurturing and easy to understand format, aided by simple daily checklists mirrored in the free Daily Dozen app. I am so delighted and relieved to be equipped with these tools, to finally be on the path to a healthier weight, and equally excited to witness the transformative effect this information will have for others who struggle with weight issues. This book is a must have for anyone who's ever faced weight loss challenges or hopes to preemptively avoid such difficulties.

Meh
The secret to weigh loss according to this book is simple, but it is not easy. There is in fact no secret at all: don't eat junk, don't eat after 7 pm and exercise 90 minutes a day.
What is different about this book is that the author took time to analyze and discuss different weight loss theories and diets (i.e. keto, low carb, intermittent fasting) and discredit al of them.
The author presents some interesting ideas worth trying, however, if one can get past the difficult to follow narration. Overall, I found some value in the book, but almost gave up so many times throughout because of the difficulty in following the narration.

His narration is AWESOME!
I don’t know why so many people don’t enjoy his narration. I find him engaging to listen too. It’s not monotone or boring, and his voice is lovely! It’s like a real person is reading it, not a robotic sounding like so many audiobooks are.
The book is amazing too, obviously. Everyone should listen/read it!
