Publisher's Summary

From YouTube star and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays in the vein of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby and You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein.

Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills!

Now, in her first-ever audiobook, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next...to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable self-described...Idiot.

With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original - and undeniably relatable - new voice.

Editorial Review

Discover how Laura Clery overcame poverty, lack of skills, and a cocaine addiction to thrive as a successful married woman who adopts rescue animals, practices yoga, and maintains a vegan lifestyle.

Idiot is a collection of essays on how Laura Clery traded in her old life for a new one. Her accounts go into gritty but frank details about everything from addiction to domestic violence. Yet somehow she manages to find the humour in every situation and shares her stories in a relatable, inspiring way.

To add to the realness of Idiot, this Audible audiobook is narrated by Laura Clery herself. With a clear voice and chatty, upbeat tone, Laura’s narration is less like a performance and more like hearing a friend share shocking but side-splittingly funny stories about her life over a coffee.

Yet Idiot is not Laura’s first brush with acclaim. Prior to creating this title, she built up a following by posting comedy sketches on Facebook and YouTube every day. All told, she has over two billion views and millions of followers.

Within just months of Idiot’s release date, Clery was nominated for an Audie Award in the Humor category. This title maintains impressively high ratings and has become a favourite for many.

Great book!

I love that it’s read by Laura! What a wonderful story. I have a sister that has always struggled with addiction and it’s always been so hard to understand. This gave me a lot of clarity! Thank you

Standing Ovation!

This audiobook is excellent in every single way. Laura Clery is an incredible writer, performer and narrator of her story. She uses character voices, accents, tonal range and everything in between to keep you fully invested in her story.
Usually, I find it difficult to fall in love with audiobooks, because if the narration doesn’t sound natural, I immediately lose attention. Laura nailed it. I’ve never read.. or listened.. to a story so quickly in my life.
Apart from her incredible performance in narration, Laura is humourous in a wonderful self-deprecating way that almost anyone could relate to, even if her personal experiences are not at all relatable. She tells it as it is, no sugar coating to anything, and it’s truly riveting.
Throughout listening, Laura took me on a rollercoaster of emotions as she told me the ups and downs through her struggle with addictions and her aspirations of becoming an actress. I felt heart wrenched, scared, surprised, shocked, excited, inspired, and so many more emotions all within a few hours of listening.
I already can’t wait to read her second book, Idiots… In fact, I’m going to purchase it right now.
*in a very Laura-esque voice* I love you, Laura!

Absolutely Honoured

I have followed Laura for a few years, and always enjoyed her sense of humour, as well as witnessing how comfortable she was in herself. She has always been open about recovery, but what I didn’t know (until now) was what she really went through, and how hard she worked to get where she is today. Her story is raw, and at times heart wrenching (as well as hilarious at times). I am honoured that she chose to share her story with her fans, and look forward to diving into her second book.
