Publisher's Summary

Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case.

Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?

As they delve further into their investigation, they encounter a theft where nothing is stolen, a séance with a troubled ghost and an ever-increasing number of Spencer’s family and friends who might just have motive for murder. One thing’s for sure: Lady Hardcastle has a mystery on her hands.

Witty, light and fun mystery book

Excellent book! This was my first from the series and I am looking forward to more. The mystery itself seems to take second place to the dialogues and the interactions between the characters, and that does not make the story any less enjoyable. The narration too was absolutely perfect!

Worth listening to over & over🤗🍷

I’m now on my second run - I adore the writer - a most worthy opponent for Agatha ❣️
So said, I would readily listen to anything Lizzy Knoweiden narrates- head and shoulders above many of them.
I actually missed the limited presence of these two in The Deadly Mystery of the Missing Diamonds - I do hope they be come back in the next book 🤞🤞🥂🥂🥂

Very Enjoyable Read

Delightful read. Charming characters, entertaining dialogues, interesting historical details and of course the curious unfolding of a few mysteries. The hours went by so quickly I was honestly quite surprised the story was at an end. I'm sure it could just have carried on into the next book and I'd hardly have noticed!

Entertaining and easy to listen to.

Great little murder mysteries. I love the light hearted bantering that goes on between the characters and the narrator is one of the best I’ve heard in a while. Definitely worth using my credits on.
