Publisher's Summary

On a cold night in Australia, two construction workers driving along a deserted mountain road are gunned down inside their vehicle. The killings are fast. Efficient.

An assassination carried out with expert precision. The only witness to the crime is a man resting by the side of the road. Recently retired, he'd flown halfway across the world to escape his demons.

Ex-US black ops operative Jason King.

Quickly spotted, King is targeted by those in the shadows of a small country town, ruthless killers determined to tie up loose ends. They have no knowledge of the violent past they are about to revive....

Run-of-the-mill Adrenaline-soaked "Supersoldier Vigilante" Tale

Matt Rogers doesn't offer anything innovative with his 'Jason King' character: a former Special Ops/Black Ops soldier with impeccable morals/ethics MMA-ing his way through hordes of loathesome generic villains by himself.. saving random little girls from gang rape, threatening & torturing suspects, bypassing law enforcement (bureaucrats, really) who are unwilling to do what needs to be done, and leaving stacks of enough bodies in his wake to embarrass John Rambo (the tropes just keep coming).
Rogers clearly knows his audience (you know exactly what kind of senseless action you're going to get with this unapologetic "pulp" author). Yes, it's formulaic, but written capably and well-paced. If you're prepared to set aside reservations and just enjoy the stoopid, the book is a fun violence-fuelled rollercoaster ride with an indestructible do-gooder fighting for justice, saving the world, and getting the girl.

Fortuitously, outstanding reading from Roger Wayne makes the suspension of disbelief easier - with his near-perfect diction and praiseworthy cadence/timbre/tone. His voice-acting is the real gem, however. The book takes place in Australia - and Wayne's down-under interpretation sounds authentic enough to make me think that he used to live there. If you are given the option between reading a text version of this book (paper or eBook) or downloading this recorded iteration.. take this one every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

This stuff is undeniably "Brain Candy" - guaranteed to rot your mind if you take too much of it - but also a diverting "guilty pleasure" (like any junk food that you consume as a treat to yourself every now and then).
'Isolated' is a 2-dimensional but serviceable take on the 'Equalizer'/'John Wick'/'Gray Man'/'Jack Reacher' template. If you can get it as a 'Plus' selection, it would be a reasonable distraction for a long drive or a quiet night shift. If they ask for a Credit, however, you can do far better than this strikingly unoriginal 5/10-star offering.

Utterly implausible plot.

Perhaps the worst book I’ve ever audited. Couldn’t finish it, of course. A high school student would write a better book.
