Publisher's Summary

John Dies at the End is a genre-bending, humorous account of two college drop-outs inadvertently charged with saving their small town—and the world—from a host of supernatural and paranormal invasions.

Stop.

You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands.

No, don’t put it down. It’s too late. They’re watching you.

My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you’ll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it’s too late. You touched the book. You’re in the game. You’re under the eye.

The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why? You just have to trust me.

The important thing is this: the drug is called Soy Sauce, and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do.

I’m sorry to have involved you in this, I really am. But as you read about these terrible events and the very dark epoch the world is about to enter as a result, it is crucial you keep one thing in mind: none of this was my fault.

This is a great effing book!

This book is Kurt Vonnegut mixed with Stephen King and Christopher Moore, making for a highly entertaining story that balances subversive dark absurdist humour mixed with genuinely disturbing and otherworldly horror.

Weird and Wonderful.

I had no idea what to expect going into this one and was pleasantly surprised. It is weird but extremely entertaining. Perfect narration for the content (in my opinion).

Intriguing, insane, and incredible.

I have always liked this book (and love the movie. even if it chops out a good 80% of the book, it was delivered well) and the audio book is a great listen. For those looking for a humorous and ludicrous ride through an increasingly warped story, this is a really good book.

It is serious when it needs to be, but in a real/human way that conveys what would happen if you grabbed a couple of average guys and threw them into the twilight zone. Then made them tell the story to each other while high, and then someone wrote down what they overheard and made a story out of it. The characters are likeable and realistic, and the story is well written.

It isn't perfect but it is a solid read/listen. Don't go into this expecting everything to make total sense. It makes just enough sense to convey a clear narrative and give you a fun story to try and piece together. Highly recommend.

Fun!

Don't get distracted, lol! Tried my usual listen in the background while also reading. I've gotten pretty good at that. But this, noooo, so much happens so fast and it's a bit crazy in a very fun way. I was three chapters in and started over because I would tune out for a few and come back to " what the heck, how, why? Aaaah!" This is truly a fun story! Can't wait to hit the next one!

Looking forward to sequel

There are way more random tangents and jokes in here than there are in the movie.

Random, long winded and aimless

I loved David Wong's "14" but this book was a tiring, juvenile ramble-fest that seemed to be made up as the story went along. I've read better stories from middle-school students. Very disappointed...

As always, the book is better than the film.

Not that I didn't love the film, but there's always so much that can be conveyed by a book that film just can't cover. I'm also delighted that the book and film diverge in the middle, so it wasn't just like listening to a described audio version of the film.
