Publisher's Summary

Here are two bestselling novels which offer a great introduction to the Kings and Sorcerers series. Kings and Sorcerers tells the epic coming of age story of Kyra, 15, who dreams of becoming a famed warrior, like her father, though she is the only girl in a fort of boys. She struggles to understand her special skills and mysterious inner power, and comes to realize she is different than the others.

But a secret is being kept from her about her birth and the prophecy surrounding her, leaving her only to wonder. When Kyra comes of age and her father tries to wed her off, she refuses and journeys out on her own, into a dangerous wood, where she encounters a wounded dragon—and ignites a series of events that will change the kingdom forever.

With its strong atmosphere and complex characters, Kings and Sorcerers is a sweeping saga of knights and warriors, of kings and lords, of honor and valor, of magic, destiny, monsters and dragons. It is a story of love and broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is fantasy at its finest, inviting us into a world that will live with us forever, one that will appeal to all ages and genders.

Infantile drivel

I rarely post reviews, but this was just insultingly bad. Everything about it, from the bland and derivative world, to the aggressively Mary-Sue protagonist, to the shockingly uninspired secondary characters, completely fails to be even remotely competent. It reads like a hodgepodge of fantasy tropes thrown into a blender with no regard for how to fit them together, or make them in any way unique
All this pales, however, when compared to how mind-bogglingly poor the actual writing is. Every time we meet a new character, we're subjected to an endless barrage of poorly-written backstory that somehow manages to be both unoriginal and ridiculous. Nothing is delivered organically; it's all listed right up front in the blandest possible way. The exact same can be said for characters' emotions. There's no subtext, no inferences to be made from their reactions. No, we're treated to a multi-paragraph essay on the fact that this character is mad, and the reasons they're mad, and how angry they are at this because of exactly how it ties into their personality. "Show, don't tell" is the first thing any new author is taught, and this book exemplifies exactly why that's so important.
Finally, it's painfully obvious that no editor has come within a mile of this book. The writing is ambiguous, grammatically incorrect, or just plain nonsensical. Sometimes the subject of a sentence will just change halfway through, or the author will accidentally repeat the beginning of their sentence at the end.
This is not a good book. It's not even a bad book. It's an appalling, ghastly abomination that offends the literary world with its mere existence. I consider it borderline criminal that they're actually charging money for this.

But cheers to the narrator; he did fine.
