Publisher's Summary

Beast has been disfigured in a fire, but he's covered his skin with tattoos to make sure no one mistakes his scars for weakness. The accident not only hurt his body, but damaged his soul and self-esteem, so he's wrapped himself in a tight cocoon of violence and mayhem where no one can reach him.

Until one night, when he finds a young man covered in blood in their clubhouse. Sweet, innocent, and as beautiful as an angel fallen from heaven, Laurent pulls on all of Beast's heartstrings.

In 1805, Laurent has no family, no means, and his eyesight is failing. To escape a life of poverty, he uses his beauty, but that only backfires and leads him to a catastrophe that changes his life forever. He takes one step into the abyss and is transported to the future, ready to fight for a life worth living.

What he doesn't expect in his way is a brutal, gruff wall of tattooed muscle with a tender side that only Laurent is allowed to touch. And yet, if Laurent ever wants to earn his freedom, he might have to tear out the heart of the very man who took care of him when it mattered most.

Contains mature themes.

Not for everyone

If you are not easily offended I recomend this book, If you are pass your way. This book is not full of "love, rainbows and unicorns". Beast and Laurent come from 2 different places and have their own baggage. Their actions and reaction to certain things are not ok, but fit with their personality and past. The narration was good. I enjoyed this book and will listen the other ones of the serie.

My high hopes were dashed...

I gave this book 2 stars only because of Joel Leslie’s narration. This book was extreme in opposites it was almost trying to make it seem that people that are super violent have such a kind heart and just need someone to understand them and love them and then they’ll be the purest of hearts and dedicated for life.

The story was also unnecessarily long. I started skipping chapters, listening to see if he figured it out and skipping more. I had to skip till the third last paragraph.

I couldn’t understand why beast who seemed so smart in the beginning of the book got dumber as the book went along, you would think he would’ve figured out what was going on way before having to be told three chapters before the end of the book, and even then, all he needed to do was to stay out of the building but Laurent’s character stays naïve and innocent almost the entire time and there was no adapting to the lifestyle no adapting to the new world. Sometimes opposites attract but in this instance, it felt like beast grabbed on to the one person who liked him, regardless of his scars.

Beast’s promise to the demon was so selfish. No consideration for any other member, only him and Laurent and continuing a bike club he didn’t want to be in in the first place.....

The demon has power within the building, why not both leave before the birthday?

I was going to read the remaining books, but now not so much. I will start listening to book 2 but no desire to listen to 15 hours of strife just to sate a demon.

toxic relationship

I didn't want the main characters to be together. beast was so toxic and mean to Laurent. it is also disgusting to refer to your lover as your property. and expecting someone to kiss you after one date and getting so made when they refuse is so unfair.
