Description

This program is read by the author.

The ultimate guide on leadership from the number-one New York Times best-selling coauthor of Extreme Ownership.

In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak.

But what if you are promoted into a new position leading your former peers? What if you don’t get selected for the leadership position you wanted? How do you overcome imposter syndrome when you aren’t sure you should be leading? As a leader, how do you judiciously dole out punishment? What about reward? How do you build trust with your both your superiors and your subordinates? How do you deliver truthful criticism up and down the chain of command in a tactful and positive way?

These are all questions about leadership - the most complex of all human endeavors. And while there are books out there that provide solid leadership principles, books like Extreme Ownership and The Dichotomy of Leadership, there is no leadership field manual that provides a direct, situational, pragmatic how-to guide that anyone can instantly put to use.

Until now. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need - not just to understand the leadership game but also how to play the leadership game and win it.

Extremely Refreshing

There was a time when a handshake was enough to seal a deal. A time when honour, discipline, and acts of burying the ego were normative behaviours. A time when doing the right thing was not about garnering attention, but upholding a standard. There was a time when the norms of business and social behaviour were dominated by individuals that learned self-discipline and leadership through military service. That influence is less present in our modern world, but the standards they endeared are no less valuable.

Jocko Willink’s book engenders those standards and beyond. For most that have served time in military service, the standards of discipline and principled leadership are learned through an implicit process, being part of the system. Implicit learning is important because it teaches instinct and habit, but it does not always provide a clear framework. Implicit learning follows a convergent path, gradually shaping an individual’s behaviours through experience. The problem with implicit learning is that without a clear standard, a clear goal, the learning process can be long, and some lessons may never be learned. Jocko’s book bridges that gap by providing a clear framework, a goal, a standard of leadership that is worthy of aspiration.

This is not a book about becoming a great leader in the manner of Napoleon or Alexander, it is a book that exemplifies the standards for professional leadership. Leadership that is built on strength, self-control, and sensitivity to the needs and mannerisms of real people. A guidebook that completes the cognitive map of what a leader should be.

For those actively involved in military service Jocko’s book offers a perfect compliment to their implicit learning path, a clear framework that enables a path to deliberate, conscious learning. For those in the business world, it defines a goal to which leaders may strive while plotting their own experiential path. For me it was revelatory in that it defined many leadership principles that I previously sensed, but could not elucidate. It was also a refreshing affirmation, that in a world where narcissistic tendencies have become more prevalent, there is still value in those old standards of self-control.

excellent in alla spects

this is the first leadership book I've read/listened to that based its self in reality. Not that everybody's reality is being a navy seal but Willink recognizes that just having a cheery attitude will fix every situation. Throughout the book, Willink discussed multiple strategies to solve problems and I especially liked the tough love at the end, yes you will have to apologize, "yes you have to behave correctly, no this is not about you".
excellt job, thank you.

transformational

I loved this book! I enjoy his style of teaching. There were many places in this book where I could envision scenarios in my own life, followed by ways to grow past the negative scenarios and reinforcement to continue growing the positive ones. This book has and will continue to create positive growth in all aspects of my life.
