Publisher's Summary

In 1994, Immaculee Ilibagiza's world was ripped apart when her native country of Rwanda descended into a bloody genocide. Her family was brutally murdered during a killing spree that lasted three months and claimed the lives of nearly a million Rwandans.

Miraculously, Immaculee survived the slaughter. For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them. It was during those endless hours of unspeakable terror that Immaculee forged a profound and lasting relationship with God.

The triumphant story of this remarkable woman's journey through the darkness of genocide will inspire anyone whose life has been touched by fear, suffering, and loss.

What the critics say

"Ilibagiza's remarkable path to forgiving the perpetrators and releasing her anger is a beacon to others who have suffered injustice....This book is a precious addition to the literature that tries to make sense of humankind's seemingly bottomless depravity." (Publishers Weekly)

Fantastically inspiring

One of the most inspiring books I have ever listened to. Tremendously powerful faith in the face of horrific evil surrounding her everyday during the Rwandan genocide.

Through the power of God, forgiveness is possible.

A heart wrenching tale of a woman raised in a home filled with love and traditional values, moving into a new school setting that started to open her eyes to pure hate, and thrown in head and heart into one of the most horrific holocausts at the hands of people who stopped seeing their neighbour as human. Whether rats or cockroaches, once humans devalue each other, even in the womb, there is no limit to the horrors man can do to man. Even amongst all the hate and death, God can peirce and help heal a heart that could never heal without Him. I was continually reminded of the power and importance of daily prayer.

An awe inspiring tale of survival, gods love and forgiveness.

This book hits deep in your soul. I will never forget this painful but inspiring story. Immaculee Ilibagiza partnered with God is an amazing woman. She sets the ultimate example of true, unwavering faith even when surrounded by treacherous, pure evil and heart shattering circumstances. She talks about a message she received from God (one of many)… Faith can move mountains, but if faith was easy all of the mountains would be gone. Thank you, thank you for sharing your story. Your story that will inspire so much good in the world. May God continue to bless you and your wonderful family look down upon you while surrounded in the Joy of Gods light and love.
