Publisher's Summary

The biggest science fiction series of the decade comes to an incredible conclusion in the ninth and final novel in James S.A. Corey’s Hugo-award winning space opera that inspired the Prime Original series.

Hugo Award Winner for Best Series

The Laconian Empire has fallen, setting the 1,300 solar systems free from the rule of Winston Duarte. But the ancient enemy that killed the gate builders is awake, and the war against our universe has begun again.

In the dead system of Adro, Elvi Okoye leads a desperate scientific mission to understand what the gate builders were and what destroyed them, even if it means compromising herself and the half-alien children who bear the weight of her investigation. Through the wide-flung systems of humanity, Colonel Aliana Tanaka hunts for Duarte’s missing daughter...and the shattered emperor himself. And on the Rocinante, James Holden and his crew struggle to build a future for humanity out of the shards and ruins of all that has come before.

As nearly unimaginable forces prepare to annihilate all human life, Holden and a group of unlikely allies discover a last, desperate chance to unite all of humanity, with the promise of a vast galactic civilization free from wars, factions, lies, and secrets if they win.

But the price of victory may be worse than the cost of defeat.

Great finale

This series has created a fantastic world building, the humans we know in this story may end but the story isn’t over. Origins or aftermath I’m looking forward to more.

Loved the entire series!

Thank you to the authors and to Jefferson Mays for presenting such an incredible story. I listened to all the books on audible and loved every one. It’s tragic that the series has come to an end. Cheers!

Great saga

This series is indeed one of the best space operas out there. The entire series is both intellectually as well as emotionally engaging, which is rare for most series.
What makes it even better is the performance. Jefferson Mays brings the characters alive - transforms the book into an an amazing experience.

a fitting end for a stellar series.

Jefferson Mays has done it again--- then narration is perfect. The authors have woven a tight ending to their incredible world-building, cjaracter-building saga.

I loved every minute but, truth be told, was sad as each minute passed, as I know this marks the ending of my favorite fiction series to date. Having read and/or listened to the entire series and the novellas--- the world of the Expanse is so rich I feel I could live in it.

10/10. Read the whole series, bosmang--- just watch the doors and corners... that's where they get you.

All good things

What a ride The Expanse has been! It was almost inevitable that the series would end like this. It gives particular meaning to the line "To reach the unreachable star," from the song "The Impossible Dream," which links to Don Quixote, referenced throughout the series. I'm glad the authors wrapped up the significant loose ends.

Very sad that the story has concluded

Ty Frank & Daniel Abraham, Thank you for all work you've done creating this series, these characters, this story.

Everything about these nine novels and the accompanying novellas is a science fiction fan's dream.

You guys have kept the science in science fiction.

I truly hope that there will be more from you guys. Did Alex make it home? What happened to Phillip? Did he and Naomi ever get back together?

Jefferson - Great Job in reading this series. Thank you too.
