Publisher's Summary

“Wild satire.... The feckless protagonist, Arthur Dent, is reminiscent of Vonnegut heroes.” (Chicago Tribune)

The unhappy inhabitants of planet Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky above their heads - so they plan to destroy it. The universe, that is. Now only five individuals stand between the killer robots of Krikkit and their goal of total annihilation.

They are Arthur Dent, a mild-mannered space and time traveler who tries to learn how to fly by throwing himself at the ground and missing; Ford Prefect, his best friend, who decides to go insane to see if he likes it; Slartibartfast, the indomitable vice president of the Campaign for Real Time, who travels in a ship powered by irrational behavior; Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-president of the galaxy; and Trillian, the sexy space cadet who is torn between a persistent Thunder God and a very depressed Beeblebrox.

How will it all end? Will it end? Only this stalwart crew knows as they try to avert "universal" Armageddon and save life as we know it - and don't know it!

“Adams is one of those rare treasures: an author who, one senses, has as much fun writing as one has reading.” (Arizona Daily Star)

Great story, great adaptation.

This competes with the first book as my favourite in the series. Fun and absurd with a side of charm is my best attempt at a description.

Martin Freeman & the rest of the production are top class, not so much a narration as a voice actor playing a wild cast of characters and managing to make them all sound very distinct. The only possible improvement I could see above this is having multiple narrators (which TBF I have encountered exactly 1 time with Hank Green’s second book and it is awesome).

Martin Freeman is funny and easy to understand.

This made a long trip much shorter. Douglas's comedic sci fi aporoach and his ability to find the cosmic laughs in mundane activities is extraordinary.

Cool events happen in this one but it's confusing

I felt like it got a bit confusing at the end. The main villain suddenly came into story and faded away.

Magnificent

Loved every minute! Constantly kept guessing, and Freeman's rendition is tremendous. Love the added voice effects.

Very funny, albeit not the best Hitchhiker

while not my favorite hitchhiker book in terms of story, this one is still very funny, very clever and very much worth your time. The voice performance is great, and the characters of Hactar and Prack are both very memorably weird. Martin Freeman has clearly put in a lot of thought and effort to his narration.

Quick Pace. Great wit.

Gotta pay attention or you can get lost pretty quick in the language and craziness that happens throughout the book.

Out of this world!

I loved every insane minute of it! Martin Freeman is a master story teller. Douglas Adams is a brilliant nut-bar and I love all the "Galaxy" series. Two thumbs up!
