Publisher's Summary

Vicious interstellar conflict with an indestructible alien species. Bloody civil war over the last habitable zones of the cosmos. Political unrest, militaristic police forces, dire threats to the solar system....

Humanity is on the ropes, and after years of fighting a two-front war with losing odds, so is Commonwealth Defense Corps officer Andrew Grayson. He dreams of dropping out of the service one day alongside his pilot girlfriend, but as warfare consumes entire planets and conditions on Earth deteriorate, he wonders if there will be anywhere left for them to go.

After surviving a disastrous spaceborne assault, Grayson is reassigned to a ship bound for a distant colony - and packed with malcontents and troublemakers. His most dangerous battle has just begun.

In this sequel to the best-selling Terms of Enlistment, a weary soldier must fight to prevent the downfall of his species...or bear witness to humanity’s last fleeting breaths.

Good start got moral stupid

The first part of the book was great like the first but once the penal group came into the story it got very stupid very fast with such stupid morality that never existed in the first book its taking me a very long time to finish this short book because of it.

Incredible!

Story is super fun and campy but in the best way. I’ve heard it said that these books are of the starship troopers movie was a book and I have to agree! Amazing series all around!

Everything was bad

The narrator was very annoying, he acted non-chalant during situations where the character should have been excitable (i.e. when he is about to be killed, or in a dangerous situation). Not Daniels best work.

The story is non-sense for anyone who is actually in the military or has any experience with violence. At one point, a cop saves his life from a criminal gang who is about to kill him and the narrative talks about how the cop was evil for being violent. That's just one example of the continuous logical gymnastics. If you're a veteran or have any experience with violence, you'll find this story very pseudointellectual.

Tropey as heck

It's not bad as such. I just found it predictable and highly conforming to trope. Probably won't continue the series.
