Publisher's Summary

Don Quixote is the classic story. Called the first modern novel, this marvelous book has stood the test of time to become irrevocably intertwined with the fabric of society. Sixteenth-century Spanish gentleman Don Quixote, fed by his own delusional fantasies, takes to the road in search of chivalrous adventures. But his quest leads to more trouble than triumph. At once humorous, romantic, and sad, Don Quixote is a literary landmark. This fresh edition, by award-winning translator Edith Grossman, brings the tale to life as never before.

As good as literature gets

This book is a timeless masterpiece. One cannot sing praises high enough to capture what a delight this audiobook brings. Besides being a phenomenal new translation, the narrator is first class. The original text is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest of all time. The new translation and narration bring to this novel to such a perfection that it cannot be overstated how much of a pleasure this book has been.

A pleasant surprise and certainly worth the time.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audio book. The narrator was fantastic and he definitely brought it to life. I don't listen to many fictional books but this one is a classic gem.

a story to sink into

This is a wonderful translation, with superb narration. Truly.
And I while I was truly daunted by the thought of 31 hours' narration of this novel, yet now that it's over, I miss them, both Don Quixote and his squire Sancha Panza. I will be thinking about them and what the story reflects about us, as people. I will also be thinking of the reasons why some have voted this the greatest novel written to date.
The most known tales where he tilts at windmills etc. are probably in Book I but the story takes amazing twists in Book II, so if you're listening... persevere.

Wow...

This was so much more than expected. Absolutely incredible considering its age and style. It flowed quickly and I found myself laughing out loud many times at the tales of Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, the gray, and poor old Rocinante.
