Publisher's Summary

Never before available on unabridged audio! Dexter's Michael C. Hall reads this classic horror story described by Publishers Weekly as the "most frightening novel Stephen King has ever written".

When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

Behind the "pet sematary", there is another burial ground, one that lures people to it with seductive promises...and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there - one more terrifying than death itself and hideously more powerful. An ominous fate befalls anyone who dares tamper with this forbidden place, as Louis is about to discover for himself....

What the critics say

"The narrator is Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), who can now add an Earphones Award to his resume.... Hall's narration captures the surprising humanity found on the page, but his voice becomes appropriately grim as the story barrels toward the inevitable darkness." (AudioFile)

Far more chilling than the 1989 movie!

I was hesitant to read this book after watching the original movie. The original film did not grasp/scare me (mostly because I have become spoiled by modern FX). This book however, was fantastic and chilling! Definitely worth a read, even if you did not enjoy the original movie. The performance was great 10/10 would purchase again.

A near perfect classic.

Great story. Chilling. The climax is a little lackluster, but excellent characters/ writing. The setup seems to call for a bigger ending but King plays it small and spooky. I had already seen the great 89 movie adaptation and was shocked upon reading this, how incredibly faithful it was to this novel. Though, I don't recommend watching it before reading this because SO much of the mystery is gone. Michael C Hall does a good job as narrator...but he does a terrible job immitating some characters voices and that pulled me out of the story. Overall, a fun, skilfully crafted horror story.

Stunning

Can we give Michael C. Hall six stars? An absolute gripping performance. Steven King never fails to disappoint. I’ve read the novel more than once, but the audible can only be defined as an “experience”.

Descent into madness

This is by far my favorite Stephen King novel. The narration was perfect. Mr. Hall captured the essence of the characters and it was an enjoyable listen.
