Story
The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age.

EXCELLENT!!!
Robert Inglis' narroration of The Lord of the Rings is excellent. The only piece of minor criticism I have is that occassionally a word or a phrase is different than in the book. For example, at one point the narrorator said "three days" but the book said "two days". And occassionally things are added or omitted. That being said, these alterations are extremely minor and do not take away from the story whatsoever.

Better as an audiobook
Really enjoyed this book, I couldn't get through this in the traditional format as I found it dragged, especially during the songs etc. This narrator did a great job and there were parts of this book where the action was so scary/intense I had to stay up late to make sure I could leave off at a part where I could actually fall asleep after turning it off.

You have no idea
I have literally lost count of how many times I have listened to all of the LOTR books. I listen to one every night (I literally can’t fall asleep without it anymore 😂) and have memorized most of the words. I love these books so much and if you disagree then you are not very smart and you just aren’t doing it right. 😁❤️💍🌋

The Serkis-narrated Version Is Better
There is no disputing the quality of the writing in this second book in a timeless trilogy.. J.R.R.Tolkien shifts from the whimsical - child-friendly - tone of the "introductory" Third Age chronicles ('The Hobbit' and 'The Fellowship Of The Ring') to the history/myth-driven action-adventures that Peter Jackson so capably delivered with his LOTR film series. 'The Two Towers' is an incredibly involved classic "High Fantasy" tale.. loaded with peerless worldbuilding, memorable characters/species (e.g. Ents & Urük-Hai), and pulsepounding tension-filled battle scenes.
Rob Inglis is quite clearly not a professional reader - making occasional reading errors, delivering too quickly (listen at 0.95X for the best experience), and breathing deeply & audibly throughout the performance. On the good side, his voice-acting repertoire is distinctive and his stage-inspired singing of Tolkien's songs is impressive.. but, despite apparently channeling the author (it feels like Tolkien himself is reading the book), Inglis's performance is overall unspectacular.
Andy Serkis's more recent - 2020 - read (available elsewhere on Audible) is more accurate to Peter Jackson's interpretation (the correct one, in my opinion).
[Note: I also think moving 'The Death of Boromir' from this book to 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'Shelob's Lair' to 'The Return of the King' were wise editorial moves]
My recommendation is to download Inglis's performance for Book One of the trilogy, and then shift to Serkis for Books Two and Three.
Regardless, this recording is worthy of 8 stars out of 10. It absolutely merits your Credit.
