Story
For the first time as an Orbit special edition, Brent Weeks's blockbuster novella Perfect Shadow tells the origin story of the Night Angel trilogy's most enigmatic character: Durzo Blint. Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He's also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he's worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity, and all too often he's become a hero, his very names passing into legend.

Story
Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild. Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder. It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.

Perfect writing
The characters, plot and world are so perfectly knit together that you can't progress one without progressing the others. The story flows well and keeps you engaged at all times.
The narrator was amazing, voicing characters, adding pauses, coughs, stutters ...where needed, making the experience very immersive.

Masterful!
I absolutely loved this book. Arlan's evolution hit home. The magic system is very unique. The characters were very human. Peter Brett this is my first book of yours I've read, and I must say I consider you one of my favorite authors now. The voice actor who narrated the book was excellent. Keep em coming! On to the Desert Spear! #Audible1

why do writers hate ppl so much
Great job by the narrator and an awesome story if you stick thru to the end. But I cant for the life of me understand why some writers start the first books with hours of negativity and the mcs catering to the worst examples of humanity. if they would only stand up for themselves I'd understand but just taking the abuse is a terrible way to gain respect for your characters. grit my teeth countless times thru the first 5 chapters. I wanted lisha to smack her mom so much I think I died alittle inside when it never happened.

I’ve listened to this book twice. The characters are so memorable and the world he created is incredible. The narrator is world class. Cannot recommend this book or series enough.

Great Series
Great series like the title says. Great narration.
I am however pissed off that Audible is constantly changing the cover art of books post-purchase. Stop doing that, assholes.

As expected.
There's a bard, a powerful warrior-monk and a toolish girl healer.
Neat wards tho. That's a refreshing take on magic. The various civilizations are a little too close to real-world civs for my taste, mind you, but still. They are well done. Arlin's adoption of the lone wanderer trope after he gets the means to fight the corelings was a bit disappointing, but well anchored in the story nevertheless.
I'll keep listening.
