Publisher's Summary
A collection of 17 wonderful short stories showing that two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks is as talented a writer as he is an actor.
A gentle Eastern European immigrant arrives in New York City after his family and his life have been torn apart by his country's civil war. A man who loves to bowl rolls a perfect game - and then another and then another and then many more in a row until he winds up ESPN's newest celebrity, and he must decide if the combination of perfection and celebrity has ruined the thing he loves. An eccentric billionaire and his faithful executive assistant venture into America looking for acquisitions and discover a down and out motel, romance, and a bit of real life. These are just some of the tales Tom Hanks tells in this first collection of his short stories. They are surprising, intelligent, heartwarming, and, for the millions and millions of Tom Hanks fans, an absolute must-have!
Featuring additional performances by Peter Gerety, Peter Scolari, Cecily Strong, Holland Taylor, and Wilmer Valderrama on "Stay with Us".
What the critics say
"The stories are wide ranging, at times funny, bizarre, and poignant - but the real draw is Hanks himself. As expected, his performance is charismatic. His strengths shine in male characters, especially curious boys and men in conversation. He regularly plays with accents, making memorable a couple of recurring characters. The final story, a screenplay, offers a special treat - a full cast of his friends performing along with him." (AudioFile)

Exquisite ! Excellent reading !
I love it ! Mr. (Tom ) Hanks is such a good reader of his own work / writing. Same as he is so good at reading the works of other writers when he is an actor. A much beloved actor ! One that is loved by all members of my family. i love his sense of humor about the boy and his typewriter. He, so cleverly pronounced the jumbled / mixed up words, that I just HAD to laugh ! Hysterical, and Historical ! beloved Mr. Tom Hanks !

Absolutely loved it!
As millions know, Tom Hanks is a talented actor. What’s probably new to many is that he is a fantastic writer. His stories in this book captured my imagination and have awakened my curiosity about a number of topics and things, namely typewriters... In his voice these stories came to life with passion and warmth. I laughed, cringed and even teared up once or twice. My commute was so much better with Mr. Hanks’ company. What am I going to do now?

More please ....
Listening to Tom Hanks is a stand lone treat but realizing that he created these stories takes that treat to a different level. I would love to see Tom Hanks write more because he clearly has a rare talent for engaging his readers leaving them wanting more ...

Good clean fun
If you're expecting the absolute peak of prose, you won't find it. If you want a set of stories that will set your imagination aflame and warm your heart, this is a great place to find it. There wasn't a story in this book that I wasn't drawn in by, and each of the stories is charming in its own way.

Awesome Audio book
For what Tom Hanks may lack in pure writing skills, and that is little, his for the most part wholesome “awe shucks” character shines through and he brings his characters to life as nobody else could. Final chapter is even more of a audible bonus, highly recommend.

Hanks taps out the type you'll love!
Well crafted stories, wonderfully read in Hank's own style. Each one at some point, uses or mentions a typewriter, many of them whose names I fondly remember; and weaves them into these charming, moving, excellent short stories. I really enjoyed listening to them to see where they'd take me, and find out how the typewriter would appear, and what kind it would be.

It's Tom Hanks, and actually some good stories too
Ok, so I definitely bought this audiobook mainly just because of Tom Hanks narrating it. And because of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgJ3kSOHMiU
But I actually liked most of the stories. Most of them. Some of them were a bit weird, but I kinda expected that with short stories. Some of them are also just a bit...boring?
There are a few storylines (or characters) that have multiple stories. Some are pretty much the same, like the newspaper column, while others are vastly different - like the group of friends who go bowling, end up in outerspace with a backyard rocket, and who go through romantic issues as well. And lots of standalone stories that go through the gamut from deep emotional fiction to wildly ridiculous science fiction. And then it ends with a full-cast read-aloud screenplay with music.
I liked the recurring theme of typewriters throughout the stories. A few stories are pretty much about a typewriter, but some you really need to listen for them. A few made me want to go write on one. A few made me think "well, that's how he worked in in. Cop out..." I'd say give it a listen, good to hear his voice, and a few stories are stand-outs!
Now go type something!
