Publisher's Summary

Diana Gabaldon's magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times best seller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first. Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind. It has been 20 years since she and Jamie were forced to separate. Can she risk everything, maybe even her life, on a gamble that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time?

Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

What the critics say

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The Best Female Narrators You Can Listen To All Day

When considering a new audiobook, one of the biggest questions listeners have is whether they’ll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable as audiobooks span at least a few hours, and sticking with one person’s voice for that period can feel like a big commitment. Luckily, there are so many excellent voice actors performing audiobooks that you might just find yourself gravitating to certain audiobooks based solely on the narrator’s strength.

fantastic

Great history and romance...love the continuing story of Claire...but sometimes Gabaldon gets too long winded...like in all the novels...omitting the 1st Outlander....couldn't be better!

Needs a female narrator.

I’m not sure why a book from a females perspective would be narrated by a man. But it seems kind of silly the first one was great to listen to she was fabulous with voices. Well voyager I just couldn’t get into with a male reading it.

Excellent

The author is so descriptive that you can almost see, smell, taste and hear every element of the story. Absolutely love the narrator. Wonderful use of accents and tone of voice.

Reading the series looked overwhelming….

But listening to the first two books made it impossible for me to not go on through the story. The Outlander series has me in a spell. D.Porter has such a lovely narration voice and wide range of reading expressions that it’s nearly impossible to find a good place to stop during the 40 hour listen!

A few mispronounced galiec words, but overall really good

Over the last few books, Davina Porter has begun to pronounced majority of Gaelic correctly with a few exceptions like Abandewa is still said wrong

Hard to get through the blatant racism

The author writes about Willoughby (Yi Tian Cho) as if he isn't even human, calling him "The Chinese" or "The Chinaman". It's disgusting. All of his dialog is written with exaggerated and stereotypical speech. The terrible mocking accents from the narrator really drive it home.
