Good Paranormal Romance

The second book in the GUILD HUNTER series finds vampire hunter Elena Devereux continuing her relationship with Archangel Raphael while grappling with her new abilities as an angel.

Elena and Raphael stayed relatively the same, as did their relationships. There were new characters who were introduced, though I didn't feel that anyone really developed. While Elena did grapple with her past traumas and Raphael understood the consequences of what would come from loving a hunter, their bond didn't seem to have any tension.

There were some action scenes to break up the romance, though I never really felt like Elena and Raphael were in any true danger. The plot still moved at a good pace, with some spicy scenes that were very well written.

For the most part, the prose is solid, though there are a few moments when the characters seem to repeat themselves, whether through dialogue or internal thought, so some sections become far more predictable. There was also a reveal at the end that seemed a little rushed to me, and I'd have liked to see it drawn out for deeper storylines.

That said, this is a good popcorn read for anyone who is looking for a paranormal romance. Each adventure seems to be self-contained so anyone can pick the book up and dive into it.

Love the spice & story!

These books keep getting better! The new adventure they are on together, the love and humanity she’s helping him find! I absolutely love the spice in this series it helps offset the violence and action!

Love the plots but not the porn

I really enjoy the plots the author unfurls. Unfortunately she gets far too caught up in her sexual ramblings. So much so I can skip several minutes ahead to leave the bedroom return to the real story. Turn the overly described sex scenes down a few notches and the stories could be 10 out of 5 stars in the horror, sci fi and fantasy genres. Her draw towards “romance” to the point of pornography detracts from what could otherwise become classics instead of mere hardcore Harlequin romances.

I listened to the first book in the series on my library’s online service. Didn’t mind spending a credit for this, but I think I’ll use the free library service for the remainder.

Should this author decide to leave hardcore romance and take a more serious step towards the science fiction and fantasy genres I do believe she will be outstanding and remembered as a Tolkien level novelist. Until then, just another smut writer for the bored or unfulfilled housewife.
