A mutating plague is spreading. It's killing two of every three people on Earth. And Mike Crenshaw is totally unprepared. From the world of The Traveler Series comes a new cast of characters, new obstacles, and the same devastating, world-altering virus which plunges society into the depth of a dystopian hell. Unprepared begins in the hours before The Scourge takes hold. As if ripped from today's headlines, governments react too slowly and the disease spreads too fast. Quarantines don't work. Publisher's Summary
What would it take to turn an all-American teenager into a stone-cold killer?
America has fallen to a catastrophic stealth attack and a ground invasion of the continental United States has begun. Sacramento teenager, Jack Monaghan, has just buried his parents, and needs to work out what to do. Trouble is, his older sister has locked herself in her room and won't eat, drink, or talk to him - let alone sit down and plan what they'll do to survive. To top it all off, the invaders have disabled the phone networks and power grid and he's lost touch with his best friend, the one person he knows he’ll be able to rely upon at the end of the world.
What else could go wrong?
A knock on the door, that's what...

Amazing New Dystopian Thriller with Unique Concept
Lone Wolf: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (America Falls - Occupied Territory Book 1) written by Scott Medbury. The narration is provided by Adam Barr. Mr. Medbury has taken a different tack for this Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian Thriller. The Chinese have used a virus to kill most adults except those with some Asian ancestry and the minor percentage that has that natural immunity. They use an EMP weapon to knock out the power grid. This is the start of their take over of the West Coast to ease their countries own problems of overpopulation and decreased food production.
The story does a great job of holding the listener's attention. The main character of Jack starts the story caring for his sister who is in shock and grief over the death of their parents. This is his story. A story of a young man pushed to his limits over the loss of life, home, and country. This is the first volume in the series. I recommend this audiobook. It was enjoyable if you suspend your disbelief and just go with the story.
The narration was really enjoyable. Mr. Barr did an excellent voicing this diverse cast of characters. He gave many of the unique and memorable voices. The production quality of this audiobook is also of the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance such as loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. Anscot Publishing delivered an excellent audiobook production. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good Start
I totally enjoyed this Post-Apocalyptic book (no zombies), it starts with the Chinese releasing a virus that kills the majority of adults and destroys the power grid. In Sacramento CA Jack Monaghan (a mature 16yr.old) buries his parents and need to care for his sister Katie with help of his best friend Danny against Mr. Dawson the neighbor (you have to listen to find out). Then Jack is going to get even with the Chinese for taking away everything he loved and destroy them even if it kills him. There is good amount of fast pace horrific action and recommend even though it was too short also recommend author’s American Fall Series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU

good read!
this book is a parallel story to the author's original trilogy. This book has a far better pace than the other three books. This one is gritty, fast paced, and violent, with far more realism. The main character "jack" isn't a pansy, and fights viscously. He's competent and smart, with a vengeful spirit, which makes him likeable. honestly, I'm not finished with the book yet. but so far, it's awesome! The only reason it gets four stars, is for a couple of flaws in the book that I noticed. I hate flaws, because it kills the magic for me. Flaws snap me out of the story, and are a reminder it's fiction. First flaw (I have to go back and double check this one, since I'm listening to the audio version, and was driving at the time. so I could not go back and re-read it) was with Jack's friend. in the story, jack scoops up a highschool buddy, who shows jack his dad's Beretta "M9". later in the book, it's called a Glock, which is a different firearm... secondly, semi-auto firearms have "magazines" not "clips". A clip is used vary rarely these days, as it's a circa 1940's design. Jack's handguns and assault rifles would not have a "clip". Next flaw, Jack finds a .308 rifle with a magnified optic (scope) on it, right off the shelf of a gun store. He rushes off with it, and proceededs to engage in a gunfight. Jack was making precision shots from a distance, without first zeroing the optic. it would have been more fun for jack to throw a round, and realize he's going to have to offset his shots to make up for not having a zeroed in optic. lastly (and I won't hold it against the author too much, since nearly every author does this) when people die, you CAN'T close their eye lids. that's a Hollywood mishap that drives me nuts. Humans, dogs, horses, mammals in general have a relaxed eye lid muscle when the eye lid is open, not closed. In my profession, I see a lot of dead bodies... trust me, closing eyes on dead people isn't a thing.
Overall, it's a great book. I'm not trying to sound like a snob, I just really appreciate an author who takes the painstakingly tedious time to research subjects l while writing a story. Authors like Brad Thor, Patricia Briggs, etc. do an amazing job with this. I think if this author did the same, he'd wind up with a cult following pretty quickly!

Somewhat different dystopian fiction
I like the path Medbury has taken with this dystopian story. There's a few illogical contrivances for suspenseful effect, but no more than might be expected for a thriller. The characters are compelling and Adam Barr voices them effectively. Although the story is set up to continue, it does not end in a cliffhanger. I hope to have the opportunity to review more books in this series.
