After a traffic stop turns violent at the hands of the police, a young Black teen grapples with racism—and what it means for his future. Critically acclaimed author Nic Stone boldly tackles America’s troubled history with race relations in her gripping debut novel. Justyce is a good kid, an honor student, and always there to help a friend—but none of that matters to the police officer who just put him in handcuffs without cause. Story
Years ago, when plagues and natural disasters killed millions of people, much of the world stopped dreaming. Without dreams, people are haunted, sick, mad, unable to rebuild. The government soon finds that the Indigenous people of North America have retained their dreams, an ability rumored to be housed in the very marrow of their bones. Soon, residential schools pop up — or are re-opened — across the land to bring in the dreamers and harvest their dreams.

Story
If there's one thing seventeen-year-old Maverick Carter knows, it's that a real man takes care of his family. As the son of a former gang legend, Mav does that the only way he knows how: dealing for the King Lords. With this money he can help his mom, who works two jobs while his dad's in prison. Life's not perfect, but with a fly girlfriend and a cousin who always has his back, Mav's got everything under control. Until, that is, Maverick finds out he's a father. But it's not so easy to sling dope, finish school, and raise a child.

Be prepared to feel this one deeply.
I tried to listen to this while I was busy doing tasks around the house, which is the way I listen to must audiobooks, but I found myself so captivated by this story that I just sat and listened. Most audiobooks don't hold me for more than half an hour or so. This one didn't let me go until it was over. And my heartstrings are still thrumming. Wow.

Best book ever
I honestly never usually like books but this book was AMAZING. I have never read such a deep book. It was a very quick read which I didn’t like because I just wanted more. I listened to the whole thing in almost one sitting and I can say that it is a perfect book for a teenager.
