Histoire
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

Teachers show up in different forms and in many chapters of a child’s life. Teaching is literacy and numeracy, but most importantly, it’s showing up with your whole heart. It’s walking kids - and yourself - through the hardest conversations about trauma, loss, grief, racism, or violence. As we work to piece together our education system in the fallout from the global pandemic, the focus must be on the teachers. If the people in charge - those teachers - aren’t OK, the students don’t stand a chance.

Histoire
Over her decades as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Mona Delahooke has routinely counseled distraught parents who struggle to manage their children’s challenging, sometimes oppositional behaviors. These families are understandably focused on correcting or improving a child’s lack of compliance, emotional outbursts, tantrums, and other “out of control” behavior. But, as she has shared with these families, a perspective shift is needed. Behavior, no matter how challenging, is not the problem but a symptom; a clue about what is happening in a child’s unique physiologic makeup.

The future of our society depends on our gifted children - the population in which we'll find our next Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, or Virginia Woolf. Yet the gifts and talents of some of our most brilliant kids may never be recognized because these children fall into a group known as twice exceptional, or "2e". Twice exceptional kids are both gifted and diagnosed with a disability - often ADHD or an autism spectrum disorder - leading teachers and parents to overlook the child's talents and focus solely on his weaknesses.

We all know that parenting can be one of the most rewarding experiences in the life of anybody. Parenting an ADHD child without the proper knowledge and tools, on the contrary, can be a nightmare. We need to shift our perception of ADHD, probably the most misunderstood and mishandled syndrome.
Auteur(s): L. William Ross-Child MLC
Description
From the renowned authority on education and parenting, "an in-depth approach to aid parents and teachers to work together with behaviorally challenging students" (Publishers Weekly) - now revised and updated.
School discipline is broken. Too often, the kids who need our help the most are viewed as disrespectful, out of control, and beyond help, and are often the recipients of our most ineffective, most punitive interventions. These students - and their parents, teachers, and administrators - are frustrated and desperate for answers.
Dr. Ross W. Greene, author of the acclaimed book The Explosive Child, offers educators and parents a different framework for understanding challenging behavior. Dr. Greene's Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach helps adults focus on the true factors contributing to challenging classroom behaviors, empowering educators to address these factors and create helping relationships with their most at-risk kids.
This revised and updated edition of Lost at School contains the latest refinements to Dr. Greene's CPS model, including enhanced methods for solving problems collaboratively, improving communication, and building relationships with kids.
Dr. Greene's lively, compelling narrative includes:
- Tools to identify the problems and lagging skills causing challenging behavior
- Explicit guidance on how to radically improve interactions with challenging kids and reduce challenging episodes - along with many examples showing how it's done
- Practical guidance for successful planning and collaboration among educators, parents, and kids
Backed by years of experience and research and written with a powerful sense of hope and achievable change, Lost at School gives teachers and parents the realistic strategies and information to impact the classroom experience of every challenging kid (and their classmates).

Great narration of an inspiring book
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book on a long road trip. The narration was engaging and clear. I appreciated knowing when the book switched from various subheadings such as "the story continues" or clearly breaking down lists of examples. I would recommend this book to teachers, parents or caregivers that work with "difficult behaviours".

great book
This book has a very different philosophy on dealing with challenging kids. It's worth a read/listen. Easy to read language and many concrete examples so you know what to do in your classroom/home. I enjoyed the story lines throughout the book that showed practical application and gave the book something extra (more than just theory, data, and examples).

Lost at School / Found in the Classroom
Lost at School is a powerful story of being lost and found in the classroom. Of finding a place where you are safe, respected, and valued. Lost at School should be a must-read book for all teachers. Students will remain lost at school unless we take the time to find them in our classrooms. An absolutely powerful book, thank you for writing it!
