Relatable, real stories.

This is the 3rd book of Mark Manson’s that I’ve “read” - this one being an audio only version. Hearing the first hand account of the 5 people he interviews over a span of time adds to the authenticity of their stories.

Mark Manson is the guy that says F**k a lot. His usual approach is direct, and his unfiltered words slap you across the face in an attempt to wake you up to the truth - your truth. In this book however, he came through much gentler and supportive. I always imagined his voice to be much more intense and harsh but he’s refreshingly quite calm. Unlike the one-way communication of his books, this is a two-way communication between him and his subjects, along with his added commentary of what he observed. Instead of dumping the brutal truth onto his subjects, in true coaching fashion he’s right there with them - curiously nudging and redirecting. He encourages each to become more conscious and to explore the road blocks getting in the way of love.

Each chapter is a discovery for each person to set boundaries, identify power struggles, explore their fantasies, become more vulnerable, express courage to be loved and to recognize the simplicity, yet difficulty in doing each.

Hearing the sessions reminded me that an emotion as significant and complex as love, is a journey. You don’t start the journey “bad” at love and end the journey “good” at love. There is no end and no beginning; there is rarely an obvious before and after. Rather, if we’re brave enough to get uncomfortable and ask for what we need, we’ll experience more moments that allow love in. The people and their stories are relatable and you’ll likely see yourself in one of them.

Good listen!!

This book is easy to listen to and was very interesting. When I first realized it was going to be interviews with people instead of a standard book I was thinking I was wasting my time. But I gave it a chance because I like Mark. It turned out to be very insightful for me and I highly recommend.

Informative

The format of this audible read is very well done. Very easy to listen to and also engaging. Mark Manson makes a whole lot of sense of so much non-sense with relationships in general. I recommend this work.

A very good listen!

No matter what stage you are at “ figuring out relationships “. These were some good stories and interviews that will make us all think and relate. I recommend it for anyone struggling or just loving to learn more about why we do what we do in relationships

Podcast style breezy listen

I enjoyed this format of audiobook. Felt like I was in someone’s living room eavesdropping (with permission) on a very honest and open conversation between two people. You might listen to the stories and think this is passé, or you’re too wise and above this, but Mark Manson peppers these stories with observations, examples, and concepts that bring to light some blind spots I personally was unaware of.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to make a deeper connection with themselves.

Advice for everyday life AND relationships

Communication, vulnerability, boundaries, intimacy, independence - not just specific to maintaining and developing relationships but also integral to how we as individuals function with one another. This format is different than Mark's previous books but echos a lot of the lessons in the unique situations and circumstances faced by the many individuals Mark meets with.

Keep doing what you're doing!!

I have been an avid Mason reader for a while now. Looking forward to the Will Smith book buddy... I know you're going to kill it!! He always keeps me engaged with the stories, philosophies, and ideas of how to look at things in a different perspective and that is something that is cherished and that is valuable to me. This new project "Love Is Not Enough" is something everybody should take a look at. People sometimes get stuck in these modes of thinking that end up hindering their ability to live fully and happy ("The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken"). So thank you Mark for inspiring me to be a better me. If I happen to see you in a bar someday... drinks are on me! Cheers!

Yuck!

Was a big fan of Manson’s relationship blog and excited for this release. Unfortunately, found it to be tedious, boring, and painful to listen to. Very disappointed. :(

Upsetting and disappointing

Mark chose 5 cases out of thousands of relationship issues, and guess what he chose? He is actually counseling one woman on how to have a better relationship with her married affair partner of 3 yrs! I was appalled! Is that so common is his professional experience that he thinks the rest of us want to know how to have better relationships with our affair partners! I am still upset from reading and just returned the book

Helpful to hear the pitfalls of other people

Sometimes it is hard to self reflect on ways we may come up messy in a relationship, or the ways that we self sabotage from the one thing we want: to feel loved and accepted. Listening to the struggle of other's can help, as you can reflect on your experiences and see where you too may have fallen in a similar mind trap, all in the name of protecting yourself. The book is fun to listen to, though I felt the stories were very extreme and it was hard to relate to the people he interviewed. I was hoping to hear a story from a less dramatic person but I guess it is those stories that our media loves to highlight. Mark Mason has a very nonjudgmental approach to how he sits and listens, though he is assessing things, but still I appreciate how he narrates and engages with each person. It is a good listen.

Awesome awesome awesome

I have learned so much from this book. Once again, Mark strips it down and talks sense about a topic that doesn't tend to make much sense....I loved it. Highly recommend.

Great guide to healthy love

Such a great guide to building a healthy loving relationship. I could relate to all 5 totally different people love stories thanks to Mark who brings to light common patterns. So interesting and encouraging to see the evolution of these 5 people throughout the project. I particularly appreciated Marks comments and guidance. Endearing characters, laughs, tears, aha moments... Amazing audiobook!
