Impending, inevitable heartbreak never felt so good...

The first time I met Damien Baxter, I told him to go eff himself. The second time I met him, I almost slapped him across the face after he made me cry. Third time’s a charm right? Wrong.

But I have no choice. I’m stuck shadowing him at his company for the next two months. And if I want to achieve my dream of getting into the Ph.D. program I've worked toward my whole life, then I’m going to have to suck him up.

It. Suck it up.

If he has his way, though, the only thing I’m going to be learning from him is how to have my body utterly and completely ravaged and my heart broken. It sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen.

So then, why can't I say no?

Luxe is the first book in Daisy Allen's hot new billionaire romance series, The Baxter Billionaires. It is a spicy, contemporary romance, interconnected stand-alone with no cheating and a HEA.

Unexpected Love story

This book is entertaining and has emotional depth. A good part of it evokes the emotions the author is trying to convey. Yet, at times, the character development of the hero is inconsistent. One one hand the hero is presented as intelligent and capable. On the other hand the hero is portrayed as lacking ingenuity and moxie. Although in reality people aren't always consistent, I think character development of the hero is too inconsistent thus frustrating myself the listener. If the story dilemma regarding the company power struggle was more intense and even physically threatening, the hero's unhappy (first) proposal would have been more believable. However, as it's written in the book, the hero makes no real effort to deal with the company power struggle before giving up. In reality, someone in his position would have more means and intelligence to problem solve than what's presented in the book. If only this happened it would have been easier to stay immersed in the story world since the story would have been more believable.
The narration was okay except the female narrator's accents aren't consistent.

I skipped through some segments of this very drawn out “love” story where the MMC was arguably emotionally abusive.
It is one of the few reads that I hoped the FMC would come to her senses and move on from this toxic situation.

The accents were meh.
The spice was nice.
Glad it was included in the catalog- def not worth a credit.

Overall irritating despite great spice
