As a single mom rebuilding my life from scratch, I don’t need help. And I definitely don’t need the attention of a six-foot-three maple farmer with a beard and a hero complex who looks at me like I’m a problem he didn’t sign up for.

My landlord is broad-shouldered, permanently unimpressed, and entirely too comfortable telling me when I’m wrong. I think he’s grumpy, rigid, and overprotective. He thinks I’m chaos in Crocs.

Falling for Josh Lawrence was never part of the plan.

But then he starts showing up.

For my son when he’s overwhelmed.

For my daughters when they need someone steady.

And for me when my hands won’t stop shaking.

I didn’t come to Vermont looking for a protector. I don’t need rescuing. But somewhere between harvest festivals, pumpkin canoe races, and quiet mornings in the sugar shack, the man I swore was just an annoyance becomes my safe place.

And when my dangerous past resurfaces and threatens the new life I’ve built, the grumpy maple farmer next door becomes my fiercest protector, ready to stand by my side while I fight for my family.

Because it turns out maple farmers are a lot like their trees: quiet, stubborn, and surprisingly sweet when the pressure builds.

I really enjoyed this book, maybe even more than the first one.
My only issue is that I am not a fan of Emma Widlers narration. I don't like her voice inflections at the end of most of her sentences. It sounds unnatural.

Cute Story

Liked the characters and the humor. Had loved the first book so was very glad to dive into this one when it came out. Was not disappointed. Hope there are more to the series.

Really enjoyable

Maple & Moonlight is the second book of the Maplewood series by Daphne Elliot. We follow Celine, a single mom of three, trying to escape her past and rebuild her life, and Josh, a broody maple farmer searching for purpose in his life.

This book hit all my favourite tropes; small-town romance with a bit of drama. The story is as sweet as maple syrup (oh the scene!) and I thought Josh was the perfect MMC. I laughed, I cried, and I flew through the novel effortlessly. The epilogue especially caught me by surprise, so definitely listen all the way to the very end.

The narration was excellent — though with Emma Wilder and Sean Masters, that came as no surprise.

Sweet as maple

I enjoyed Josh and Celine’s story. And the continued undertone of mystery as to who is messing with the town of maplewood!

Sweet and swoony

The FMC was horrible. Trauma or not she was complete garbage. She yelled at MMC for no reason a lot. He was nothing but good to her and her kids and went out of his way to help them, and all he got in return was her treating him like shit while running a muck on his farm. If she wasn't a complete Ahole the story woulda been cool.

Side note. Battered/terrified women don't usually go out and confront or yell at giant burly men. especially the ones who literally saved their kid repeatedly and warns her about all the dangers she has to be aware of on HIS farm.

Almost had it.
