Publisher's Summary

Claire Harding

I live in Idaho. (Yes, potatoes. *eye roll* Can we talk about something else?) And I love it here. Small town values galore and it’s right where I want to raise my girls after my jerk ex traded me in for a “younger, newer model” (his words, not mine).

My mom’s the volunteer fire chief in our town and I’m pretty happy hanging out with the auxiliary at the fire hall and doing her grunt work - NOT fighting fires, because, please, I read, love science, and my idea of a lot of exercise is having to walk up the stairs twice in the morning before I send my girls off to school and leave for my job as a home nurse.

I guess it’s kind of weird that I also coach basketball. Long story.

I was pretty happy with my life until the hot shot, all-state baller from my teen years moved back in next door. (I babysat him, yes, but I never changed his diapers. Just wanted to be clear about that.)

Guess who’s now the assistant b-ball coach?

Logic would say me - especially since I coached my entire first year holding the play book upside down (it turned out to be an old football playbook from the ‘80s, so it’s not like it mattered which way I held it), but the accurate answer is Trey Haywood, my all-star neighbor, and I’m honestly not sure which of us is more upset about it.

Anyway, the team was trying to set us up (girls, they’re such romantics), and I don’t think they would have succeeded, but in celebration of breaking our 37 game losing streak, they locked Trey and me in the septic system control room.

That changed everything. Not in a good way.

Trey

Yeah. What she said.

And...when I first saw her again, I thought she was a catastrophe.

New thought post septic control: She’s a cute catastrophe. (And, holy man, can she kiss.)

Ms. Gussman and Mr. Dyess have did it again!

Between the two of them they give you a story that takes you away from your boring day and into the life of some fun characters. Ms. Gussman seems to have a life that lots of funny things happen, I think she must take those crazy things and write a story with as much laughter as her real life. If you are not a member of her newsletter you really should join it, between Jessie and her assistant Chasidi you will get a funny or touching story each week. This story takes us to the town of Good Grief, Idaho where the main female Claire is a nurse but she is also a clutz.. Trey was the star of the basketball team when he was in high school. What happens when these two meet again in their middle years? You need to listen as Mr. Dyess brings them to life, as you chuckle you can just see the things happening as he tells the story. This is a little different from the sort of books I usually listen to or read but my husband thought it was hilarious.
I received a free download of this book from the publisher to listen to on Audible. This review is my own honest opinion.

What a Fun Ride

This book is reminiscent of Jessie's Christmas Car Kerfuffle with it's funny, awkward, klutzy heroine where everything that can go wrong does, and then some. I was duly mortified for Claire on more than one occasion as I could see myself in a similar situation. I went from empathetic embarrassment, to craving cookies, to frustration, to laughing out loud in just the first few chapters. What a fun ride. In true Jessie Gussman fashion, this book is a hit!

Audio Book: Jay Dyess reading this takes it to a whole new level of funny. His comedic timing makes it about 75% more funny. I laughed out loud at my favorite scenes, and some of the others that are made more funny by his timing. And his voices. I knew in my mind that a man was narrating this book, but in the first chapter, I wondered who the woman was that was reading Claire's part. And each of the townspeople were spot on voice-wise. What a great performance!

Another hit for the Gussman/Dyess combo. Great story and of course an excellent performance as always.

Sweetly Charming and Entertaining!

I immediately saw myself in this heroine and had an empathetic chuckle. I truly LOLed, and my eyes couldn’t leave the page.
It was sweetly charming and entertaining.
Update: I have since listened to the narration, as well. The audio was sweetly charming and spot on with humorous timing.
I received a review copy of this book, and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Witty and Fun

This is my favorite story so far by Jessie Gussman! The characters were real and relatable with plenty of real life, crazy mishaps throughout! A definite feel good story that will make you laugh and smile!

great romcom

This is audio was over way too quickly! I just sailed through it. A sweet and heart melting audio. I love the emotion put into this romcom.

Story:
A book unlike any of Gussman's previous, but I loved it! Plenty of action, fast moving, and filled with laughter. A fun and light read.

laugh out loud hilarious

Claire just does not want to look like a cougar but her crush on Trey has never gone away. They are both single and back in town. Trey has had a crush on her for years and it still burns just as bright all these years later. How they meet again is quite funny. They have a few hiccups to get through in order for them to finally confess how they feel. Loved their interaction. This book made me laugh out loud pretty much through out the whole book. So looking forward to book two. Love the narrator!!! He has the best voice and does an amazing job.

Sweet Story, Amazing Narration

Jessie Gussman is one of my favorite authors for a sweet, thoughtful read. I look forward to reading her books as they come out. This rom-com is a new genre for her and I’m not sure it is my favorite of hers, but it is sweet and I enjoyed reading it. Jay Dyess never ceases to amaze me as a narrator. He is so easy to listen to and he makes the book come alive. I have stopped listening to many audiobooks because the narrator’s voice made me annoyed or made me cringe. Never with Jay. His voice draws me in and touches my heart in all the right ways.

Sweet and fun

Me and the Cute Catastrophe is a sweet and clean romance appropriate for teens and up. I love the fun characters and their story. The sweet romance made me melt (especially when listening to the audiobook!). The narrator gave a fantastic performance and nailed the characters. I laughed out loud when I listened. Listening to Mr. Dyess narrate a Gussman book makes a wonderful book phenomenal.
