About this listen

Friendship, love, and forgiveness...

The Maxwells and the Popes have been friends forever. The women were college roommates, their husbands are partners in the same law firm, their kids have grown up next door to each other, and the two families share both vacations and holidays.

Like Wisteria Lane, the "perfect" suburban street of Desperate Housewives, all is beautiful and serene -- until an accident forces these close neighbors to look beneath the surface. And when their idyllic lives are unexpectedly shattered by a moment that can never be erased or forgotten, their faith in one another -- and in themselves -- is put to the supreme test.

In this moving, unforgettable story, Barbara Delinsky exquisitely captures the depth and complexity of the human heart as few writers can.

This is one of my favourite Delinsky novels, and for a long time all I could find was an abridged version on Audible. I was so pleased to find this unabridged version, but a little leery when I saw it was Barbara Rosenblatt narrating. Her raspy voice seems more appropriate for tough and sardonic detective novels, than this moving, positive story of friendship, family and love.
Aside from Ms Rosenblatt’s rough voice, I noted also what other reviewers have mentioned re sounds of swallowing and saliva. That seemed very disconcerting. And in fairness to the narrator, although I don’t care for her voice, she’s always been completely professional in any other book I’ve listened to. This was really odd.
In spite of the terrible quality of the narration, I highly recommend this audiobook.

Great story, poor narration
