Description
Since childhood Nila Carter has been made to spend every weekend at the family cabin. In her teenage years she believes it to be a prison; as an adult it becomes her sanctuary and means to survive.
When a mysterious outbreak occurs in India, Nila's brother, Bobby, a virologist with the CDC, places the family on a precautionary alert to be ready to bug out. Unlike anything he's ever seen, the rabies-like virus is not just deadly; it causes extreme violent behavior in those infected. Following her brother's advice, Nila begins to stockpile.
After months of preparing, just as it seems the virus is over, everything implodes, and Bobby tells his family to leave the city. With her family, Nila heads to the mountains and to her father's isolated land. There she is eventually joined by friends and strangers, all hoping to safely stay clear of the virus that grips the world. The plan is to wait until the virus burns out.
While there, the group forms a tight bond, feeling secure that they will beat the extinction event and in due course return home. As time moves on, Nila quickly learns there are things they cannot run from, and a virus is one of them. Despite how prepared they are, how secure the land, each day brings a new threat and a painful reality that not only is returning home a pipe dream, but the likelihood of all of them surviving is increasingly growing slim.

Notably "Realistic" ZA Tale
Well.. as realistic as a civilization-ending pandemic causing pseudo-cannibalistic insanity can be. The story follows a group of Doomsday Preppers in Pennsylvania with a CDC Scientist in the family - dealing with weeks of rumor, denial, and secrecy.. followed by rapid societal collapse - that eerily echoes what we saw in the early days with COVID-19.
Unfortunately, this Jacqueline Druga story devolves from an uncomfortably familiar & relatable suspense chronicle into an emotionally heavy-handed trope-driven narrative (helplessly watching the loved ones sicken; having to "put down" the infected husband; etc.).
The end result is a capably-delivered Zombie Apocalypse offering (don't expect anything unique.. but if you set your expectations appropriately, the book is adequately well-written and entertaining).
Reader Vanessa Johansson delivers an above-average - if oddly emotionally flat - performance of the book. Her reading is by no means flawless (she overenunciates somewhat, for example), but Podium Audio did very well to enlist Johansson to read the book.
Altogether, the audiobook merits 8/10 stars. Offered as a 'Plus' selection, 'My Dead World' is worth the time for any Zombie Fiction afficianado. If they ask for a Credit, however, consider this one for sure (it may grab you enough to prompt you to follow the series) - but be aware that you can find similarly entertaining fare elsewhere.

Just too naive

Worth the time
A plausible story depicting a pandemic that affects the whole world. Narration was good and the Characters are believable, all be it a little over the top at times.

Interested but underwhelmed
This was pretty soft in terms of post apocalyptic zombies. I enjoyed how they started off in a decent place in terms of survival with the experience with guns and shooting, the prepping of the cabin etc. Didn’t mean much in the end. Not sure if I can find the interest to continue this series.

well written, protagonist annoyed me
I don't fault the author, it was well written. descriptive and on the whole had a fair amount of depth to the characters.
It actually speaks well to the writing that the personality of the main character got on my nerves as much as it did.
not my cup of tea but I can see others enjoying it.
