Publisher's Summary

When experienced homicide detective Casey Duncan first moved to the secret town of Rockton, she expected a safe haven for people like her, people running from their past misdeeds and past lives. She knew living in Rockton meant living off the grid completely: no cell phones, no Internet, no mail, very little electricity, and no way of getting in or out without the town council's approval. What she didn't expect is that Rockton comes with its own set of secrets and dangers. Now, in A Darkness Absolute, Casey and her fellow Rockton sheriff's deputy Will chase a cabin-fevered resident into the woods, where they are stranded in a blizzard. Taking shelter in a cave, they discover a former resident who's been held captive for over a year. When the bodies of two other women turn up, Casey and her colleagues must find out if it's an outsider behind the killings or if the answer is more complicated than that...before another victim goes missing.

Casey Duncan returns in another heart-racing thriller from number-one New York Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong.

Can always tell when the narrator isn't Canadian

Toque is pronounced too-k, not toke.....
And Newfoundland is more like Newfinlan, not New Finland

Pronunciation!!

It’s pronounced “two-que”… not toke. Brutal!! Needs to be changed. Otherwise it’s a great story. As a Canadian… please update the narration.

Great story, but "toke"? OMG!

I love the premise for this series - and having lived and traveled in Canada's more northermy parts, I can completely buy into it. I've also enjoyed following the characters and their development.

But - and I know I'm nowhere near the first to make this observation, but I am compelled! - the pronunciation of toque was highly distracting and annoying! It's "tewk"! How did that escape any production quality control?

That said, I'm moving on to book 3 in the series, and I am very much looking forward to it!

Toque

My stars say it all, except if the narrator is reading a book written by a Canadian authour about a thriller that takes place in Canada, she should know how to pronounce “toque” correctly.

Good story

My only complaint is Casey’s Newfoundland dog
Is not being pronounced properly please correct this in future novels it’s new found land
If you say un der stand pronounced as spelled New found land is the same sound out the three words and you’ll have it right🤤other than that I really enjoy these stories and narrator is very good( with that one exception)

its TWO-QUE not Tuk.

I loved the narration overall but her proniunciation of Toque took me right out of the story.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the first novel. great story, riveting to listen to - mispronounced words aside.

My favorite of the series

Great book.
I wish the narrator would have asked a Canadian how to pronounce 'Toque'

great story frustrating narration

I absolutely love the story. I love the series for the "locked room" puzzles with the twist endings. The hidden back stories are fantastic. The reason I can't give this book five stars is because of the reader. I love her voices and even her cadence when there is action but my problem is with her pronunciation. Toque is NOT said like took (to rhyme with book) toque is pronounced two-kh. This story heavily features a bloodied toque and with the pronunciation off it becomes very annoying very quickly. Other than my issues with that the story is great and the performance is good. would recommend to any mystery lovers

Too-k not toke

The storyline is great, an ever-evolving story. The way the narrator say touque is incredibly irritating. It’s “too-k” not toke.

Canadian story, not so Canadian narration

The narrator is clearly not Canadian by her pronunciation of “toque” and “Newfoundland” 😝. Otherwise I do like her narration.
